Blue Monkey Beverage Acquires Local Weather Sports Drink Brand

Blue Monkey Beverage announced that it has acquired Local Weather, a premium coconut water-based sports drink brand formulated with electrolytes, adaptogens, and nootropics. The acquisition marks a new phase of growth for Local Weather as it gains access to Blue Monkey’s operational expertise and retail distribution network while continuing to operate as an independent brand.

Local Weather was developed to offer an alternative in the sports drink category, which is often dominated by high-sugar beverages made with high-fructose corn syrup or dextrose and packaged in plastic bottles. The brand focuses on clean hydration using coconut water combined with functional ingredients including pink Himalayan salt, magnesium, potassium, ashwagandha, and L-theanine. The drinks are packaged in resealable aluminum bottles designed to be infinitely recyclable.

The beverage contains 6 g of natural cane sugar and 35 calories per bottle. It is also caffeine-free, gluten-free, and vegan. Current flavors include Wildberry, Mango Passionfruit, Fruit Punch, and Orange Clementine.

Blue Monkey said the acquisition aligns with its strategy to build a portfolio of better-for-you beverage brands. The company is known for sparkling juice, fresh juice, and coconut water beverages made from real fruit with non-GMO ingredients and no added sugar.

Local Weather was founded in 2023 by Jon Alagem, Michael Scott Cohen, and NFL quarterback Russell Wilson. The brand was designed to deliver functional hydration that supports both mental focus and physical performance.

Under the new ownership structure, Local Weather will continue to operate as a standalone brand while leveraging Blue Monkey’s industry relationships and growth capabilities.
