BMW AG has officially unveiled the new fully electric BMW i3, marking the second model in its next-generation Neue Klasse lineup and signaling a major evolution of its best-selling 3 Series sedan into the electric era.

The announcement was made in an official press release published on March 18, 2026, detailing the vehicle’s performance, design, and technological advancements. The new i3 is positioned as a fully electric reinterpretation of the iconic BMW 3 Series, which has defined the brand for decades.

The BMW i3 50 xDrive will launch with dual electric motors delivering a combined output of 345 kW, or 469 horsepower, and 645 Nm of torque. The vehicle incorporates BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology, along with an 800-volt architecture designed to improve efficiency and charging performance.

BMW said the model can achieve a range of up to 900 kilometers under WLTP testing conditions. Fast-charging capabilities allow the vehicle to recover up to 400 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes using DC fast charging at up to 400 kW.

The i3 also introduces a new digital and driving experience powered by BMW’s “Heart of Joy” high-performance computer, which processes driving dynamics significantly faster than previous systems. This system works alongside a broader software-defined vehicle architecture to enhance handling, responsiveness, and assisted driving capabilities.

From a design standpoint, the new i3 retains hallmark BMW 3 Series proportions while introducing a modernized electric-focused aesthetic. The sedan features a long wheelbase, short overhangs, and a new lighting signature that merges the grille and headlights. Inside, BMW has integrated its new Panoramic iDrive system to deliver a more immersive and driver-oriented interface.

Production of the new BMW i3 will begin in August 2026 at BMW’s Munich plant, which has undergone significant modernization to support electric vehicle manufacturing. Initial deliveries are expected to start in autumn 2026, with the facility set to transition بالكامل to Neue Klasse electric vehicle production within a year.

The new BMW i3 represents a cornerstone of BMW’s broader electrification strategy, combining performance, digital innovation, and sustainability as the company transitions its core models to fully electric platforms.
