  • BMW has officially unveiled the new MINI Cooper SE. These are the MINI Cooper SE specifications.

This week, BMW introduced the new MINI Cooper SE — which has combined fuel consumption of 0.0 l/100 km, combined power consumption of 15.0 – 13.2 kWh/100 km, and combined CO2 emissions of 0 g/km. Essentially, the new MINI Cooper SE is going to be the first purely electric premium small car. It can be charged with a household socket, wall box, or public charging stations. And it supports fast direct-current charging possible at up to 50 kW (80% charge in just 35 minutes).

The MINI Cooper SE features sustainable mobility with the premium quality and expressive design that is typical of MINI vehicles. And the spontaneous power delivery of its 135 kW/184 hp motor, the brand-specific front-wheel drive, and the innovative driving dynamics system with wheel slip limiting close to the actuator gives the new MINI Cooper SE and unmistakable agility (known as the go-kart feeling).

And the MINI Cooper SE model-specific lithium-ion battery enables a range of 235 to 270 kilometers. Plus the high-voltage battery is situated deep in the vehicle floor, ensuring that there are no limitations in terms of luggage compartment volume compared to the conventionally powered MINI 3 Door.

In terms of speed, the MINI Cooper SE supports acceleration from zero to 60 km/h in 3.9 seconds and from zero to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. And recuperation can be configured at two levels for individual one-pedal feeling.

The standard equipment features include LED headlamps, 2-zone automatic air conditioning, heating with heat pump technology, auxiliary heating, electric parking brake, and Connected Navigation.

The new MINI Cooper SE is being produced in the brand’s home country. And it comes off the production line at the MINI plant in Oxford along with the conventionally powered versions of the model. Plus the drive technology comes from the BMW Group competence centers for electromobility in Dingolfing and Landshut.

Rather than a petrol or diesel engine, there is an electric motor under the bonnet of the new MINI Cooper SE. And the high-voltage battery with model-specific configuration is made up of lithium-ions cells subdivided into 12 modules. These modules form a T-shaped unit positioned in the vehicle floor, providing a gross energy content of 32.6 kWh.

The electric motor in the MINI Cooper SE is smaller and lighter than a combustion engine, which contributes to the axle load distribution. And with the lower center of gravity, it gives the electrically powered model agile handling thus making it easier to control even when cornering at high speed.

The MINI Cooper SE has four settings that can be selected using a switch located on the right-hand side of the toggle bar — which are displayed in the light ring of the central instrument – in red (SPORT mode), white (MID) or green (GREEN and GREEN+). And the comfort-oriented steering characteristics of the MID setting are also active in GREEN mode as well as in the new GREEN+ mode specially configured for the new MINI Cooper SE. In GREEN+ mode, additionally selected comfort functions like heating, air conditioning, and seat heating are limited or deactivated in order to increase the range of the vehicle.

The 6.5-inch touchscreen in the central instrument allows for Real Time Traffic Information to be displayed along with the Internet platforms MINI Online and the Apple CarPlay. The vehicle navigation map is updated automatically via the mobile phone connection. And Remote Services allow the driver to display details of battery charge status and range on a smartphone via the MINI Connected App. And it is also possible to generate statistics on the car’s energy consumption. Plus there is a map view that shows public charging stations in the vicinity of the vehicle.

The headlight flasher, horn, ventilation and door lock/unlock function can be remotely activated along with the interior pre-conditioning function. And when the vehicle is connected to the power grid, the driver is also able to control the charging process via Remote Services. And there is an optional equipment item Connected Navigation Plus that includes an 8.8-inch color screen and the function Telephony with Wireless Charging.
