Boom Supersonic: $300 Million Raised And 1.21GW Order Secured For New Superpower Turbine

Boom Supersonic announced significant progress in its push to commercialize next-generation supersonic and energy technologies, revealing a $300 million funding round and a substantial commercial order for its newly introduced Superpower natural gas turbine. The investment round was led by Darsana Capital Partners, with participation from Altimeter Capital, ARK Invest, Bessemer Venture Partners, Robinhood Ventures, and Y Combinator. According to the company, the fresh capital fully funds the development of its Symphony supersonic engine, while ongoing revenue from Superpower will support certification and delivery of the Overture airliner.

Alongside the financing, Boom introduced its Superpower turbine, a 42-megawatt natural gas system designed to deliver consistent power to AI data centers. The company disclosed that Crusoe, an energy-focused AI infrastructure provider, has placed an order for 29 units representing 1.21 gigawatts of capacity. The announcement marks Boom’s entry into the energy generation market, using the same core high temperature technologies being developed for its Symphony jet engine.

Boom said Superpower offers several advantages over traditional natural gas turbines. The system can maintain full output even in extreme heat, does not require water for operation, and fits into a shipping container scale package. The company plans to ramp total turbine production to more than four gigawatts annually by 2030. Boom added that Superpower will be built in the United States and contribute to domestic industrial growth.

The company reported that 95 percent of the components for its Symphony engine core prototype are now in manufacturing, with testing scheduled to begin in 2026 at its Colorado facility. Boom’s Overture order book stands at 130 aircraft from customers, including United Airlines, American Airlines, and Japan Airlines.
