Boomi, a data activation and enterprise integration technology company, has appointed Mike Hickman as Chief Financial Officer, adding a senior finance executive with approximately 30 years of experience in software and technology businesses. Hickman joins from Proofpoint, where he spent more than seven years in finance leadership and helped guide the company through its $12.3 billion take-private transaction and $1.8 billion acquisition of Hornetsecurity.

In his new role, Hickman will lead Boomi’s global finance and accounting organization, with responsibility for financial planning and analysis, accounting, treasury, tax, and financial reporting.

He will report directly to Steve Lucas, Chairman and CEO of Boomi, as the company continues expanding its global operations and developing its enterprise technology platform.

Hickman’s appointment comes as Boomi focuses on scaling its business while maintaining financial and operational discipline.

The company currently serves more than 30,000 customers, operates with a network of more than 800 partners, and employs over 2,200 people.

Its platform provides enterprise integration, automation, data management, and AI-related capabilities designed to help organizations connect information and applications across their operations.

Boomi’s leadership believes that the continued expansion of its customer base and global operations requires a finance organization capable of supporting growth across multiple geographic markets and business functions.

Hickman brings experience across several stages of corporate development, including initial public offerings, private equity ownership transitions, and major acquisitions.

He joins Boomi after spending approximately seven and a half years at Proofpoint, where he most recently served as Senior Vice President of Finance.

During his tenure, he helped guide Proofpoint through its $12.3 billion take-private transaction, as well as its $1.8 billion acquisition of Hornetsecurity.

His work also included supporting financial operations while Proofpoint expanded its revenue substantially.

These experiences provide a foundation for managing Boomi’s financial organization as the company evaluates opportunities for continued growth.

Earlier in his career, Hickman held finance leadership positions at Adobe and established the financial planning and analysis function at Marin Software ahead of its initial public offering.

He began his career at eBay and Vitria Technology, developing experience across software and technology businesses at different stages of development.

His background combines financial planning, corporate transactions, acquisition integration, and the management of finance operations in growing technology companies.

At Boomi, Hickman’s responsibilities will include strengthening the financial processes and systems needed to support the company’s international operations.

The appointment also supports Boomi’s broader strategy of expanding its position in enterprise AI and data infrastructure.

The Boomi Enterprise Platform brings together capabilities spanning AI agent design and governance, API and Model Context Protocol management, integration and automation, and data management.

These capabilities are intended to help enterprises connect applications and data while introducing AI-enabled processes across business operations.

As customers expand their use of AI, integration, and automation technologies, Boomi is investing in the infrastructure required to support increasingly complex enterprise environments.

Hickman’s financial leadership will focus on aligning the company’s internal operations with those growth opportunities.

His experience integrating major acquisitions may also be relevant as Boomi continues developing its technology platform and evaluating strategic business opportunities.

The appointment adds an executive with experience in both publicly traded and privately held technology companies, as well as managing the financial requirements associated with large-scale corporate transactions.

KEY QUOTES:

“Boomi has built the platform: more than 30,000 customers, a network of 800 partners, and more than 2,200 employees. Scaling that profitably is the work ahead, and it is a finance challenge as much as a product one. Mike has done this at every stage of the corporate lifecycle: through an IPO at Marin, through a twelve-billion-dollar take-private at Proofpoint, and through acquisitions that had to be integrated while the business kept growing. He is joining us to help set the pace.”

Steve Lucas, Chairman and CEO of Boomi

“The hard part is never the growth itself. It is building the discipline that lets you keep growing. Boomi has the two things that are genuinely difficult to build: a platform global enterprises run their businesses on, and a market expanding underneath it. My job is to make sure our financial operations scale with the opportunity, in every region we operate in.”
