Booz Allen Hamilton has completed its $720 million acquisition of the Ultra I&C Mission Solutions business, expanding its portfolio of defense technology products across secure communications, edge computing, encryption and battlefield systems.
The transaction brings Ultra Mission Solutions’ defense software, encryption and edge-compute products into Booz Allen’s national security technology platform.
Booz Allen plans to combine those capabilities with its existing AI-driven battle management, resilient communications and edge infrastructure solutions.
The combined portfolio is intended to help U.S. and allied defense customers connect, secure and deploy technology in contested and rapidly changing operational environments.
Booz Allen is particularly focused on bringing commercially developed technology into national security missions more quickly and at greater scale.
Ultra Mission Solutions expands that strategy by adding established commercial products that can be deployed across defense and intelligence environments.
The acquired business will operate as the commercial products and solutions component of Booz Allen’s defense technology business.
That organization is led by President Steve Escaravage.
The acquisition gives Booz Allen a broader portfolio spanning software, encrypted communications, edge computing, AI-enabled battle management and infrastructure designed to operate closer to the battlefield.
Edge computing has become increasingly important for defense applications because operational systems may need to process data and make decisions in environments where connectivity to centralized cloud infrastructure is limited or disrupted.
Secure communications and encryption similarly play a critical role in protecting information moving across increasingly distributed defense networks.
By integrating Ultra Mission Solutions with its existing capabilities, Booz Allen is seeking to offer more complete technology systems rather than relying solely on individual consulting or engineering engagements.
The deal also supports Booz Allen’s broader push toward commercial-grade defense products and repeatable technology platforms.
Booz Allen said national security customers are increasingly seeking products that are already developed and capable of meeting mission requirements without lengthy customization cycles.
The acquisition is intended to increase the company’s ability to scale those products across both U.S. and allied customers.
Booz Allen has positioned technology development as an increasingly important part of its strategy alongside its longstanding consulting and government services operations.
The Ultra Mission Solutions acquisition gives the company additional proprietary products and engineering capabilities that can be incorporated into that strategy.
