Breakbeat Media has expanded its growth financing facility with Applied Real Intelligence approximately 18 months after the companies established their original financing relationship in April 2025.

The additional capital will support Breakbeat’s expansion across original programming, technology, live entertainment, social-first content and branded entertainment.

Breakbeat was founded and is led by Dave Mays, the founder of The Source magazine.

The company is building a multi-platform media operation centered on hip-hop culture and its global audience.

Breakbeat has expanded beyond podcasts into video programming, live events, branded entertainment and scripted vertical content.

Its existing franchises include Still 400: The Mannie & Juvie Show, hosted by Mannie Fresh and Juvenile, which recently surpassed 100,000 YouTube subscribers.

The show has also expanded into live events in St. Louis and Chicago.

Breakbeat is preparing to launch 5 Mics, a weekly program based on the album-rating concept created by Mays at The Source.

Other properties include Trappin Anonymous and Hit & Hers.

The company has also developed scripted social-first projects such as The Battle of the Biscuits, a vertical comedy miniseries produced with Church’s Texas Chicken and featuring Mannie Fresh, Juvenile, B.G. and Rob Kazi.

Applied Real Intelligence provides growth financing across sectors including artificial intelligence, technology, sports, media, entertainment and business services.

KEY QUOTES:

“A.R.I. has been a thoughtful and supportive partner since our initial financing, and this expanded relationship gives us additional resources to execute the next stage of Breakbeat’s development. A.R.I. founder Dr. Zack Ellison understands our vision, believes in what we are building and recognizes the opportunity ahead of us. A.R.I.’s follow-on investment will help us continue developing our programming, technology and intellectual property as we expand the Breakbeat platform.”

“Media has changed enormously since I started The Source, but the opportunity remains the same: identify important voices, understand the audience and create platforms that authentically represent the culture. Technology now allows us to reach audiences directly and build intellectual property across multiple platforms.”

“Hip-hop has become one of the most powerful influences on global culture and consumer behavior. Breakbeat is being built around that reality. We see a significant opportunity to create enduring entertainment properties for this audience while helping artists, creators and brands engage with it in ways that are authentic and commercially meaningful.”

Dave Mays, Founder and CEO of Breakbeat Media

“Dave Mays has spent more than three decades identifying cultural shifts and building successful media platforms around them. When A.R.I. first invested in Breakbeat, we saw an experienced entrepreneur applying that perspective to a media industry undergoing significant technological and distribution changes. After working closely with Dave and his team over the past 18 months, our conviction in Breakbeat’s vision and opportunity has grown. We are pleased to provide additional growth capital to support Breakbeat’s continued development.”
