BRG announced that Maurice Berbel has joined the firm’s Financial Institution Advisory practice as a Managing Director on its Operations & Technology Transformation team.
Berbel brings more than 30 years of experience advising financial institutions on consumer banking, operational improvement, technology modernization, and large-scale transformation initiatives.
He previously served as a banking practice leader at a Big Four firm and has worked extensively with major U.S. banks, credit card companies, and mortgage institutions.
Throughout his career, Berbel has built and led teams spanning operations, technology, product, data, risk, and compliance.
He has also served as a consumer banking transformation leader and client-serving partner, advising chief operating officers, chief information officers, and chief risk officers on enterprise transformation priorities.
His work has included modernizing banking platforms, redesigning operating models, and using automation to improve productivity across complex financial institutions.
At BRG, Berbel will focus on helping financial services clients modernize core banking operations while balancing regulatory requirements, risk controls, customer service, and operational efficiency.
He also brings experience applying artificial intelligence, robotic process automation, and other digital technologies across banking environments.
BRG said Berbel’s appointment comes as financial institutions increasingly move beyond AI experimentation and begin incorporating the technology more deeply into day-to-day operations.
The firm expects his experience to support clients as they evaluate where AI and automation can generate meaningful operational improvements while maintaining appropriate governance and controls.
Earlier in his career, Berbel served as Vice President at Bear Stearns, where he focused on mortgage transformation.
He also held roles at Andersen Consulting, now Accenture, and Mercer Management Consulting.
Berbel earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance and economics from Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business.
His appointment continues BRG’s expansion of its Financial Institution Advisory practice and its broader operations and technology transformation capabilities for financial services organizations.
BRG provides advisory services across economics, disputes and investigations, corporate finance, and performance improvement, combining industry expertise with data, technology, and artificial intelligence capabilities.
