Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ: AVGO) is reportedly in talks to acquire VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW). The acquisition discussions between Broadcom and VMware are ongoing and the talks could fall through, according to Reuters. The deal terms are undisclosed.
By acquiring VMware, Broadcom would be able to diversify its revenues from semiconductors and enterprise software products.
Broadcom has been on a large-scale acquisition spree in recent years. For example, Broadcom acquired CA Technologies for $18.9 billion in 2018. And Broadcom bought Symantec for $10.7 billion in 2019.
Currently, Michael Dell is VMware’s largest investor with a 40% stake as Dell Technologies spun VMware out to its shareholders last year. The second-largest shareholder in VMware is Silver Lake.
