BT Brands Returns To Quarterly Operating Profit Despite Lower Restaurant Sales

BT Brands returned to quarterly operating profitability in Q2 2026 despite a decline in restaurant sales, generating $117,205 of operating income compared with a $75,121 operating loss in the prior-year quarter.

Sales declined approximately 6.1% to $3.55 million from $3.78 million, meaning the operating improvement came primarily from cost reductions rather than revenue growth.

Food and paper costs fell to $1.13 million from $1.25 million, while labor expense declined to $1.26 million from $1.37 million. Those reductions helped absorb the lower sales base, although occupancy expense increased to $327,331 from $302,021.

The most significant corporate expense improvement came from G&A. Quarterly general and administrative expense fell to $333,675 from $531,057, with management attributing the reduction to a company-wide cost-cutting effort.

Bottom-line income reached $576,433, or $0.09 per basic share, compared with $55,031, or $0.01 per share, a year earlier. The quarter included an $829,976 unrealized gain on marketable securities, meaning the improvement in net income was substantially larger than the underlying operating-profit swing.

The first-half picture remains less favorable. Sales declined to $6.39 million from $7.01 million, while BT Brands generated a first-half operating loss of $147,145, although that loss improved from $367,317 a year earlier. First-half net loss was approximately $174,578.

BT Brands currently owns nine restaurants directly and also holds a 40.7% interest in Bagger Dave’s, which operates five restaurants. The company continues to focus on improving unit-level efficiency and has closed unprofitable locations where necessary.

The company also terminated its planned merger with Aero Velocity on May 1 after the transaction failed to become effective by the contractual deadline. That leaves BT Brands continuing as a restaurant-focused public company while it works to improve profitability from a smaller sales base.
