- Subcontractor business process software platform announced it raised $5.8 million across two tranches of seed funding
Business process software platform BuildOps announced it has raised $5.8 million in funding across two tranches of a seed round. BuildOps provides an all-in-one field service and for small and medium-sized subcontractors in the commercial real estate industry.
BuildOps is known for simplifying and integrating complex tasks like scheduling, dispatch, inventory, agreements, gated workflows, accounting, etc. into one easy-to-use software package for commercial real estate service contractors whose firms have anywhere from a few employees to several hundred field technicians.
The investment was provided by Fika ventures, MetaProp VC, Global Founders Capital, CrossCut Ventures, TenOneTen, IGSB, 1984 Ventures, L2 Ventures, GroundUp, NBA veteran Metta World Peace, Oberndorf Enterprises, Wolfson Group, and Sequoia Scouts.
Between 2015 and 2018, commercial construction spending has grown from $626 billion to $807 billion. And while most
large general contractors, architects, and property owners already adopted some form of project management software, the subcontractor market is often overlooked and offers few options. So BuildOps provides subcontractors with real-time information and data collection for all of their project needs thus increasing their efficiency and effectiveness.
BuildOps’ software for commercial subcontractors provides seamless communication between a firm’s field technicians and back office. And gated workflows ensure technicians are always on track and never forget a step while on the job. Plus the software offers a platform to quickly fill out simple safety forms right before clocking in – all completed in a few seconds on the app. Plus the communication between technicians and the back office happen in real-time — whether it’s instant messaging or email — and are stored and easily searchable in the platform.
BuildOps was founded by Alok Chanani, Steve Chew and Neeraj Mittal.
Chanani (CEO) has degrees from Cornell and Wharton. And he served in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer and infantry platoon leader. And he commanded a unit of 25 soldiers in Iraq responsible for transporting hundreds of millions of dollars in cash throughout the country. Then Chanani built a national commercial real estate company where he focused heavily on construction working closely with subcontractors for seven years.
“At BuildOps, we are on a mission to bring a true all-in-one solution on the latest technology to the people who keep America’s hospitals, power plants, and commercial real estate running. We are privileged to be working closely with some of the country’s top commercial contractors,” said Chanani.
Mittal (CTO) was Chief Architect and Senior Director of Engineering at several successful tech start-ups and is reputed to be one of the best SaaS architects in the country. Mittal started coding at the age of 9 and built his own all-in-one software solution for his father’s large contracting business in India in the 1990s.
Chew (COO) previously worked at Microsoft, Nextag, Swurv, and Fundly. Before that, Chew was a Stanford Engineer and Harvard Business School graduate. And he comes to BuildOps after leading product at Outlook/Exchange at Microsoft for five years and helping lead European operations at Nextag.
