BWXT Awarded $189 Million U.S. Navy Nuclear Fuel Contract

BWX Technologies has been awarded an approximately $189 million contract to manufacture naval nuclear reactor fuel for the U.S. Navy.

Under the contract, BWXT subsidiary Nuclear Fuel Services will manufacture and deliver fuel for the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program at its Erwin, Tennessee, facility.

Work under the agreement is scheduled to be completed in August 2027.

BWXT supplies fuel and nuclear reactor technology used across the Navy’s nuclear-powered submarine and aircraft carrier fleets.

The company’s fuel and reactors support Ohio, Virginia, Seawolf, Los Angeles, and Columbia-class submarines as well as Nimitz and Ford-class aircraft carriers.

The Nuclear Fuel Services facility processes highly enriched uranium used to manufacture fuel for U.S. naval nuclear reactors.

The Tennessee facility has manufactured naval nuclear fuel for more than 60 years.

Nuclear Fuel Services operates as a Category 1 nuclear facility licensed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
