C8 Health is a company dedicated to enhancing healthcare delivery by providing comprehensive solutions for managing clinical resources and reducing variability in care. Pulse 2.0 interviewed C8 Health founder and CEO Galia Rosen Schwarz to learn more about the company.

Galia Rosen Schwarz’s Background

Galia Rosen Schwarz

What is Galia Rosen Schwarz’s background? Schwarz said:

“My background is in business. I led business development and go-to-market in technology companies. I worked in very early-stage companies as well as large and mature companies. I was always focused on creating new markets and building new products. In addition, I researched  R&D innovation in high-technology firms at the Technion Israel Institute of Technology and was a visiting professor at NYU Stern School of Business.”

Formation Of C8 Health

How did the idea for the company come together? Schwarz reflected:

“My co-founder, Ido Zamberg, an anesthesiologist and software engineer, came up with the idea for the company. After working for years in large companies and specializing in knowledge management, he became a medical doctor. He was surprised by how long and complicated it is for clinicians to find the resources they need to do their jobs and how this affects care delivery.”

Favorite Memory

What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Schwarz reflected:

“We often interview doctors and nurses to understand how they are working with our product, how we are helping them be better at their jobs, and what we can do that we are not doing. In one of these interviews, I met a pediatric nurse who had been working for 26 years in the same pediatric ER. I asked her how often she uses our app to access her clinical resources. Her answer was” before every procedure”. I asked her why, and she answered quickly: “Because I can.” This was an aha moment for me. When knowledge is easy to access- clinicians refer to it constantly. This is key for improving care consistency and translates to both better patient outcomes and substantial cost savings.”

Core Products

What are the company’s core products and features? Schwarz explained:

“C8 Health is a clinical resource management platform designed for healthcare providers. It brings all of their knowledge resources together and streamlines access to them. By managing and integrating this knowledge into existing workflows, C8 Health creates new operational efficiencies that save time and enhance productivity.

Core features:

  1. AI assistant: Provides instant answers to clinical questions (the AI assistant provides answers only from the approved and vetted knowledge base of the hospital that the user is working within)
  2. Smart formats: Content is automatically converted to formats that are easy to read, use, and apply at the point of care, mobile-friendly, and searchable.
  3. Knowledge hub: A shared clinical and educational resource network between US hospitals.
  4. Workspaces: Create organized and collaborative workspaces for health systems, sites, departments, or teams.
  5. Streamlined management of content: Automatic workflows for the creation, update, and dissemination of clinical resources across healthcare systems, push of JIT contextualized knowledge to the point of care”

Challenges Faced

What challenges have Schwarz and the team faced in building the company? Schwarz acknowledged:

“Our platform is a content management platform. We manage the clinical, educational, quality and administrative resources of hospitals- these are constantly evolving and being updated with new knowledge being created. One of the first challenges we faced was that hospitals always sought more resources and the most up-to-date ones, but they struggled to keep up with the pace of new guidelines and knowledge creation.

To overcome this, we created the C8 Knowledge Hub through which hospitals can share clinical and educational resources. Along this vision of improving access to vetted best practices, we are e establishing strategic partnerships with leading national societies to streamline access to vital information. For instance, our recent partnership with the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) exemplifies this approach. Through this collaboration, we provide SOAP members with a dedicated version of the C8 Health app, offering seamless access to SOAP’s clinical resources and updates on guidelines.

This partnership ensures that clinicians, including anesthesiologists, pediatricians, and researchers, have quick access to the latest best practices, enhancing their ability to deliver high-quality patient care. By centralizing and efficiently disseminating clinical resources, we empower healthcare providers to make informed decisions swiftly, improving overall health outcomes.”

Evolution Of C8 Health’s Technology

How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Schwarz noted:

“Our technology continuously evolves to enable new product features and to manage and process our growing data set of clinical resources. One technology that has been very important to our business over the last year and a half is generative AI, which disrupts work productivity and efficiency in hospitals. We are both excited and cautious about it- we are rolling out features that fit with the current state of the technology with a focus on automation of tasks that take a lot of time to complete and very little time to vet the work of others.”

Significant Milestones

What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Schwarz cited:

“A critical milestone for every startup is demonstrating that it solves an important problem and brings value to its customers. An important milestone for us was working with 20 leading hospital systems and demonstrating strong engagement with our product: seeing over 90% adoption in departments within six months is a strong testament to the value that our platform drives. Our first vertical of focus was anesthesiology and we have been expanding rapidly in this vertical. Now, we are expanding into more verticals.”

Funding

When asking Schwarz about the company’s funding details, she revealed:

“We raised our seed round last year and are funded by leading VCs investing in healthcare IT systems.”

Total Addressable Market

What total addressable market (TAM) size is the company pursuing? Schwarz assessed:

“Our TAM is the healthcare provider market. We are focusing on the US hospital market as our first target market. There are currently over 6,000 hospitals in the market, and our TAM is over $4 billion.”

Differentiation From The Competition

What differentiates the company from its competition? Schwarz affirmed:

“C8 Health is the first knowledge management platform built bottom-up for clinicians. While knowledge management has disrupted the enterprise world in the last decade, the existing solutions were not built for clinicians. Clinicians require a very different user experience. They need to make the most important decisions, and they need to make them fast. We are here to help them do just that.”

Future Company Goals

What are some of the company’s future company goals? Schwarz concluded:

“Our mission is to make best practices accessible to everyone, anywhere and anytime. We plan to become the clinical resource management platform of hospitals and hospital systems. We are changing the paradigm from clinicians spending time searching for knowledge to a smart system that understands what they need and delivers this to them exactly when they need it.”
