CAI Software Acquires LLumin To Bring AI-Powered Predictive Maintenance Into The Factory Floor

CAI Software has acquired LLumin, expanding its manufacturing software platform with industrial computerized maintenance management capabilities designed to help manufacturers reduce downtime and shift from reactive maintenance toward predictive operations.

LLumin provides an industrial Computerized Maintenance Management System, or CMMS, serving complex mid-market and enterprise manufacturers.

The platform tracks manufacturing assets throughout their lifecycles along with maintenance activities, work orders, machine conditions, and other operational information.

LLumin is designed to help manufacturers identify potential equipment problems before they lead to production failures.

Its capabilities include real-time condition monitoring, predictive maintenance alerts, automated work orders, asset lifecycle management, and AI-assisted maintenance.

The software can also connect maintenance and asset information with manufacturers’ existing ERP, MES, and SCADA/PLC environments.

That integration gives manufacturers an opportunity to connect information about what is happening on the production floor with the systems responsible for maintaining the equipment supporting those operations.

The acquisition follows CAI’s recent purchase of PlanetTogether, which added advanced planning and scheduling capabilities to its manufacturing portfolio.

Together, the transactions expand CAI’s ability to support manufacturing organizations across production planning, execution, asset reliability, maintenance, and operational analytics.

CAI sees machine uptime as one of the most important variables affecting manufacturing productivity.

Unexpected equipment failures can stop production lines, disrupt schedules, create missed orders, and increase maintenance expenses.

LLumin’s technology is designed to identify deteriorating machine conditions earlier so plant operators can schedule maintenance before an issue becomes a production interruption.

For manufacturers, that can shift maintenance teams away from responding primarily after equipment fails and toward planning interventions based on condition data and predictive analytics.

CAI also believes the combined platform can give manufacturing organizations a more unified view of their operations.

Its existing products track jobs and machine events moving through industrial facilities, while LLumin adds information about the health, maintenance, and lifecycle of the equipment itself.

LLumin will operate under the name CAI LLumin following the acquisition.

The product will continue to be sold and supported as a standalone solution, and CAI plans to continue investing in its roadmap.

Founder and CEO Ed Garibian will remain with the business and lead CMMS for CAI.

The combination also gives LLumin access to CAI’s larger industrial customer base, sales organization, and investment resources.

LLumin currently serves customers across sectors including aerospace and defense, automotive, and heavy industry.

CAI has more than 45 years of experience providing software across more than 15 core industries and customers in more than 10 countries.

The company’s broader strategy is to replace disconnected manufacturing processes with integrated digital workflows that provide better visibility, compliance, automation, and decision-making.

Paul Hastings served as legal counsel to CAI, while Maven Advisors provided financial and tax diligence services.

Kaizen Equity Partners served as exclusive investment banking advisor to LLumin.

KEY QUOTES:

“Every manufacturer we work with relies on machine uptime, when the machines on the floor go down, the business suffers. Acquiring LLumin CMMS+ is exactly the right next step for our platform.”

“CAI’s products already track every job and every machine event moving through a plant. LLumin adds the piece that keeps those machines running: real-time condition monitoring, predictive maintenance alerts, and automated work orders that catch a failure before it impacts a production line. Together, we give manufacturers one connected system to run the plant and keep it running, something they can’t build themselves at this speed or this cost.”

Brent Pietrzak, CEO of CAI Software

“What CAI brings is investment, industrial customer relationships, and go-to-market scale to keep building on what’s already working. LLumin CMMS+ has real traction with some of the most complex manufacturers in the world. Joining CAI means we can accelerate the roadmap, expand our reach, and keep doing what our customers rely on us for with greater depth and velocity.”
