Canary Technologies Buys OpenKey Assets To Expand Mobile Key Coverage

By Amit Chowdhry ● Feb 8, 2026

Canary Technologies, a hotel guest management technology provider, said it has completed an asset acquisition of OpenKey, a mobile key technology company for hotels. Canary said the transaction strengthens its existing Mobile Key platform and is intended to broaden the range of compatible door lock models and manufacturers through OpenKey’s access options and lock partnerships.

The company positioned the deal as an expansion of its digital room access capabilities within its broader AI-powered Guest Management System, which includes mobile check-in, AI guest messaging, digital tipping, and dynamic upsells. Canary said it expects the added OpenKey functionality to accelerate mobile-first guest engagement and support wider adoption of keyless hotel stays globally.

OpenKey, founded in 2014, develops mobile key access solutions for hotels, resorts, and casinos. Canary said integrating OpenKey’s capabilities into its guest engagement platform will increase coverage for mobile keys and enable more hoteliers to offer an end-to-end digital guest journey.

The acquisition follows what Canary described as a year of momentum, including recognition in HotelTech Awards and a second consecutive appearance on Deloitte’s Fast 500 list. Canary said the addition of OpenKey deepens its product leadership as demand grows for frictionless arrivals and keyless stays.
