Canopy Aerospace & Defense (Canopy A&D), a portfolio company of Trive Capital, announced its acquisition of Tods Technology Ltd., a United Kingdom-based designer and manufacturer of advanced composite structures and acoustic materials for the maritime defense industry. The acquisition marks a significant expansion of Canopy A&D’s global presence and technical expertise, particularly in the marine defense sector.
Tods Technology, headquartered in Portland, Dorset, has a longstanding reputation for delivering highly specialized composite and acoustic solutions to both surface and subsurface vessels. The company’s products—such as sonar domes, acoustic enclosures, and signature-management materials—are used by more than 25 navies worldwide, including the Royal Navy.
Canopy A&D stated that the addition of Tods will enhance its capabilities across the entire lifecycle of maritime defense programs, from research and design to production and sustainment. The integration of Tods’ technologies with Canopy’s broader materials science and manufacturing portfolio will enable the combined company to accelerate shipbuilding schedules and enhance performance in mission-critical naval platforms.
Through this acquisition, Canopy A&D aims to strengthen the transatlantic supply chain between the United States and the United Kingdom and invest further in advanced materials that address the evolving needs of the global defense industry.
Tods Technology will continue to operate under the Canopy A&D umbrella, benefiting from expanded infrastructure, new investments, and the company’s established expertise across multiple facilities in Los Angeles, Denver, Cape Canaveral, and the United Kingdom.
Trive Capital, a Dallas-based private equity firm managing more than $8 billion in assets, continues to back Canopy A&D’s growth strategy as it deepens its position as a key partner to the global maritime defense industrial base.
