CAPTRUST Financial Advisors has added the Hoge-Barrett Group, a 13-person wealth management team based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, representing more than $3 billion in client assets.
The team is led by advisor Brett Hoge and traces its roots to 1999. It provides comprehensive wealth management services to individuals and families with increasingly complex financial needs, including clients with significant and multigenerational wealth.
Joining CAPTRUST alongside Hoge are advisors Alex Barrett, Josh Crane, Aaron Spivey, David Peterson, and Harry Cross, along with the rest of the group’s wealth management team.
The Hoge-Barrett Group said the move was driven by a desire to expand client resources while maintaining the team’s existing relationships and service model. CAPTRUST will provide access to a broader technology platform, investment research capabilities, and additional wealth planning resources.
The addition reflects a broader movement of established wealth management teams toward independent registered investment advisory platforms that combine greater operating flexibility with institutional-scale resources.
CAPTRUST operates a unified practice model that lets advisory teams preserve their local identities, cultures, and client relationships while gaining access to the firm’s national infrastructure, specialized capabilities, and ongoing investments in technology and other resources.
The Winston-Salem office will become CAPTRUST’s seventh location in North Carolina. The firm has more than 580 employees in the state, including 111 advisors.
CAPTRUST provides financial planning, investment management, and wealth management services to individuals, including concierge services for ultra-high-net-worth clients. Its institutional offerings include outsourced chief investment officer services, fiduciary support, retirement plan consulting, provider analysis, fee benchmarking, and financial wellness programs.
KEY QUOTES:
“Our clients’ needs have evolved significantly over the years, and we wanted to make sure our team was evolving with them. We chose CAPTRUST because it gives us greater flexibility in how we serve clients, while adding a more in-depth technology stack, deeper investment research, and more wealth planning capabilities. That allows our team to remain focused on the families we know so well while giving us more tools to address the complexity that comes with significant and multigenerational wealth.”
Brett Hoge, Advisor At CAPTRUST
“The movement of elite advisory teams toward independent RIAs is continuing because advisors are looking for greater control over how they serve increasingly sophisticated clients. Teams like Hoge-Barrett don’t want to sacrifice scale or resources to gain independence. They want both, and CAPTRUST is uniquely positioned to deliver. Through our unified practice model, advisors maintain the client relationships, culture, and local identity that define their success while gaining the strength of a growing national platform with continually expanding resources, specialized capabilities, and investment in innovation.”
