Carbon has announced the promotion of Jason Rolland, Ph.D., to the role of Chief Technology Officer, elevating one of its earliest hires to lead the company’s broader product development and research and development efforts.

Rolland, who has been with the company for more than 12 years, is a polymer scientist by training and earned his Ph.D. in 2005 under Carbon co-founder Joseph DeSimone, Ph.D. During his tenure, he built the company’s materials team and co-invented its patented dual-cure resin platform. His work contributed to the launch of numerous resin products designed to operate alongside Carbon’s hardware and software platforms, expanding the potential applications of additive manufacturing beyond traditional limitations.

Before joining Carbon, Rolland was a co-founder of Liquidia, Inc. Over the course of his career, he has been credited with more than 60 issued U.S. patents and has an additional 45 patents pending. The company said his experience spans multiple scientific and engineering disciplines, with a focus on bringing new technologies to market within startup environments.

In his new role, Rolland will oversee Carbon’s broader product development and R&D organization as the company continues to advance its additive manufacturing technologies and solutions.
