Carey Olsen Promotes Laura Kearns To Partner In Bermuda Trusts And Private Wealth Practice

Carey Olsen has promoted Laura Kearns to partner within its trusts and private wealth practice in Bermuda, strengthening the firm’s senior capabilities across trust structuring, estate planning and private client advisory work.

Kearns advises individuals, families, trustees and other private wealth clients on a broad range of trust matters, including the establishment and administration of trusts, restructurings, variations and related regulatory issues.

Her practice also extends beyond trusts into estate planning, wills, estate administration and incapacity matters, giving her experience across multiple stages of private wealth planning and succession.

The promotion reflects Carey Olsen’s continued investment in its Bermuda private client practice as wealthy individuals and families increasingly require cross-border advice on asset protection, succession planning and long-term wealth structures.

Trust arrangements can play an important role in preserving and transferring wealth across generations, particularly for families with assets, beneficiaries or business interests spread across multiple jurisdictions.

Kearns’ work on trust restructurings and variations is also relevant as existing structures may need to be updated over time to reflect changing family circumstances, tax considerations, regulatory requirements or investment objectives.

Her regulatory experience adds another dimension to the practice as trustees and private wealth clients navigate increasingly detailed compliance obligations.

Kearns joined Carey Olsen in 2022 after practicing in London and southwest England.

She qualified as a solicitor of England and Wales in 2015, giving her more than a decade of legal experience across private client and trust-related matters.

Her earlier work in the U.K. provided a foundation in estate planning and trust law that she has continued developing since moving into the Bermuda market.

Bermuda remains an important jurisdiction for international trusts, private wealth structures and fiduciary services, with clients often requiring advisers who understand both local law and the cross-border issues affecting global families.

Kearns’ promotion to partner positions her to take on a larger leadership role within Carey Olsen’s Bermuda practice while continuing to advise clients on complex trust and estate matters.

She is also a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, or STEP, a global professional organization for advisers specializing in inheritance and succession planning.

The STEP designation further reflects her focus on trusts, estates and intergenerational wealth planning.

By promoting Kearns, Carey Olsen is adding senior capacity to a practice serving clients whose needs often span legal structuring, fiduciary administration and succession planning across multiple jurisdictions.
