CaringBridge announced the appointment of Stephanie Schmid as chief executive officer, effective immediately. The nonprofit health platform said Schmid had been serving as interim CEO since October 2025 and provided leadership during a transition period while guiding the organization’s strategic priorities.
During her interim tenure, Schmid led efforts to strengthen partnerships and support innovation across the platform. The organization said she will continue advancing its mission to ensure patients, caregivers, and families have connection and support throughout their health journeys.
Prior to becoming interim CEO, Schmid served as CaringBridge’s chief growth officer. In that role, she focused on expanding partnerships, advancing revenue strategies, and deepening the organization’s impact.
The board said Schmid’s leadership experience and strategic approach positioned her to expand the nonprofit’s reach and help more families access support during difficult health situations.
Founded in 1997, CaringBridge operates a free 501(c)(3) nonprofit health platform designed to help families navigate serious health challenges. The service enables people to share updates, coordinate help, and stay connected with supportive communities. According to the organization, more than 110 new CaringBridge pages are created daily, and families exchange over 13 million posts, comments, reactions, and tributes each year.
Through partnerships with organizations including GoFundMe and InComm Payments Gift Cards, families collectively raise more than $10 million annually to address financial needs. Collaborations with Meal Train and Instacart also help deliver more than 16,000 meals each year to caregivers.
CaringBridge said it currently serves families across all 50 U.S. states and more than 240 countries worldwide as it continues working to expand access to its platform.
