Carlson Private Capital Partners announced it has reached a series of milestones tied to team expansion and new capital deployment, including a senior hire, a new platform investment, and an add-on acquisition at portfolio company Quantum Design.
The firm announced that Jared Brown has joined as managing director, where he will focus on new platform investment partnerships and strategic investments with family and founder-owned businesses. Carlson Private Capital Partners said Brown previously worked at Norwest Equity Partners and has also held roles at KRG Capital and William Blair.
Alongside the hire, Carlson Private Capital Partners said it has completed a platform investment in AMAG Technology, which it described as a global provider of high security access control, identity, guest, and video management solutions. The firm said AMAG is headquartered in Hawthorne, California, and serves mission-critical end markets including data centers, healthcare, and education.
Carlson Private Capital Partners said it made the AMAG investment in partnership with Shore Rock Partners and BellTower Partners. The firm positioned the AMAG deal as its third investment within the building automation and security sector, alongside Street Smart and Thermo Systems, with a strategy focused on serving critical infrastructure end markets.
The firm also said it supported Quantum Design’s acquisition of the Oxford NanoScience division of Oxford Instruments in January. Carlson Private Capital Partners said the transaction brings together two businesses with a combined history of more than 100 years in cryogenics and related technologies, and expands Quantum Design’s position across cryogenics, materials characterization, quantum information, and microscopy. The firm said Oxford NanoScience was the founding division of Oxford Instruments and highlighted its legacy in superconducting magnet technology and its dilution refrigerator portfolio to support emerging quantum information applications.
