Cascade Space: $5.9 Million Seed Funding Raised For Space Communication Platform

Cascade Space, a company building an end-to-end platform for space communication system design, test, and operation, recently announced it has raised $5.9 million in seed funding. The round included participation from Nova Threshold, Undeterred Capital, Y Combinator, Night Capital, Olive Capital, Valkyrie Ventures, Karman Ventures, Palm Drive Capital, Garage Capital, TRAC, Aurelia Foundry, Hawktail, MGV.VC, Pioneer Fund, Liquid 2 Ventures, and others.

Cascade Space offers an integrated solution that combines:

  1. Cascade Portal: An online software platform for spacecraft communication system design, analysis, and testing. This tool enables engineers to design RF systems quickly, generate test plans, and ensure compatibility with ground networks, thereby reducing iteration cycles from weeks to hours.
  2. Cascade Network: A growing ground station network specifically built to support deep space and lunar missions, addressing the current oversubscription and limitations of existing networks like NASA’s Deep Space Network (DSN). This network aims to provide reliable communication for demanding missions.

Essentially, Cascade Space aims to address a significant bottleneck in space companies, particularly for missions to the Moon and beyond.

How the funding will be used: This capital will advance the development of the Cascade Portal, their primary platform for designing satellite communication systems. Cascade recently open-sourced its spacelink Python library, which underpins the Portal’s functionality.

KEY QUOTE:

“Our mission at Cascade Space is to provide tools and infrastructure for spacecraft communication system design, test, and operations that will allow our customers to ship faster with the highest levels of mission assurance. Communication system design, test, and operation is a major bottleneck for space companies, especially those going to lunar and deep space. We have a team of veteran space engineers from SpaceX and Astra and we are stoked to be building the end-to-end platform to accelerate space exploration.”
