Centrus Energy has announced a partnership with Palantir Technologies to deploy artificial intelligence software in support of a multibillion-dollar expansion of U.S. uranium enrichment capacity.
The collaboration will apply Palantir’s Foundry and Artificial Intelligence Platform across Centrus’ operations as the company scales its uranium enrichment capabilities. The initiative is tied to Centrus’ commercial-scale expansion project in Piketon, Ohio, which is intended to help restore domestic uranium enrichment capacity and reduce U.S. reliance on foreign state-owned suppliers that currently dominate the global market.
According to the companies, the software platforms will integrate multiple operational systems across classified and unclassified environments. The tools will be used to optimize project controls, engineering, manufacturing execution, supply chain management, and regulatory compliance.
Centrus and Palantir began working together in late January, and the partnership has already identified nearly $300 million in potential cost savings and operational efficiencies. The companies also said the collaboration is expected to shorten manufacturing lead times and accelerate the timeline for bringing additional enrichment capacity online.
Centrus is currently the only U.S.-owned company enriching uranium today and has been advancing technologies to produce High-Assay, Low-Enriched Uranium for advanced nuclear reactors. The expansion project is designed to strengthen domestic nuclear fuel supply chains while supporting national energy security and the next generation of nuclear power.
The partnership was highlighted at AIPCon 9, an event hosted by Palantir that brings together industry and government leaders to demonstrate applications of AI-driven software in large-scale operational environments.
KEY QUOTES
“Centrus has developed and proven America’s most advanced uranium enrichment technology, and this expansion marks the moment when we scale it for commercial deployment. By integrating Palantir’s powerful tools and proven techniques into our manufacturing we are positioned to meet and exceed all operational excellence goals. The nearly $300 million in savings we have identified to date are only the beginning. This partnership builds on our recently announced EPC partnership with Fluor and demonstrates Centrus’ day-one commitment to bring in lead times and reduce unit costs for this project. It strengthens our ability to deliver a reliable, American–owned source of enriched uranium to support the nation’s energy security and the next generation of advanced reactors.”
Amir Vexler — President And CEO, Centrus Energy
“We are excited to partner with Centrus to deploy Foundry and AIP across their operations. By building a unified ontology that connects the Centrus nuclear manufacturing continuum, we’re enabling accelerated production timelines and optimized decision-making across their entire value chain. This partnership demonstrates how AI-powered software can drive measurable impact in critical infrastructure projects that are vital to America’s energy security and national competitiveness.”
