Champion Leadership Group: SaaS Fuel Fund I Closed At $55 Million

Champion Leadership Group announced the final close of SaaS Fuel Fund I at $55 million, exceeding its original $50 million target. According to the firm, the fund closed in under 30 days without a road show, placement agent, pitch deck, or outbound fundraising outreach, with all commitments coming inbound from exited SaaS founders and senior technology executives familiar with the firm’s operations.

The fund is focused on investing in approximately 30 B2B SaaS and AI companies generating between $1 million and $5 million in annual recurring revenue, a segment the firm described as underserved by traditional institutional venture capital and too advanced for early friends-and-family financing.

Champion Leadership Group said portfolio companies will receive both capital and operational support through the SaaS Fuel Operating System, a proprietary infrastructure platform trained on more than 81,000 private-market transactions. The broader platform also includes a founder-focused podcast, an operator community, and the Founder Flywheel network connecting founders with experienced operators, advisors, early customers, and follow-on investors.

Initial investment checks are expected to range from $500,000 to $3 million, with additional capital reserved for follow-on financing rounds.

The fund structure differs from traditional venture capital economics by eliminating management fees. Instead, the fund operates with a 20% carried interest structure only after investors receive their capital back plus a 9% preferred annual return hurdle. Jeff Mains committed $5 million of personal capital to the fund under the same terms as limited partners.

According to the firm, inbound investor demand exceeded the initial fundraising target, prompting a modest increase in fund size rather than rejecting investors who had longstanding relationships with the organization.

Champion Leadership Group currently serves approximately 240 founder clients through its accelerator platform and said SaaS Fuel Fund I is actively deploying capital.

KEY QUOTE:

“Every person who invested had watched us work. The oversubscription was not a marketing outcome — it was a trust outcome. That distinction matters more than most people in venture are willing to admit.”
