Charles Schwab And Anthropic Bring Claude AI To More Than 16,000 Independent Registered Investment Advisors

Charles Schwab and Anthropic are working together to bring Claude for Financial Advisors directly to more than 16,000 independent registered investment advisors served by Schwab Advisor Services, giving RIAs an AI system designed to work alongside their existing custody, CRM, portfolio reporting and financial planning tools.

Schwab Advisor Services is the first RIA custodian included in Anthropic’s new Claude for Financial Advisors offering. Advisors will be able to access Schwab Advisor Center from Claude through an authenticated connection, linking AI capabilities with the technology they already use to manage client relationships and portfolios.

Claude for Financial Advisors is designed around the daily workflows of wealth management professionals rather than functioning as a standalone general-purpose chatbot.

The system combines connectors with specialized financial-advisor skills to assist with activities such as investment research, meeting preparation, portfolio analysis, financial planning, estate planning and client documentation.

The offering is intended to help advisors complete more of the administrative and analytical work surrounding client relationships while leaving final review and decision-making with the advisor.

For example, Claude can help prepare for an upcoming client meeting by bringing together relevant information from connected systems, assist with updating a financial plan, perform analytics and draft follow-up communications for the advisor to review.

The platform also includes administrative audit logs, allowing firms to review how the technology is being used.

The partnership represents a significant distribution opportunity for Anthropic within the wealth management industry.

Schwab Advisor Services supports more than 16,000 independent RIAs, providing custody, trading and other services to advisory firms.

By integrating Claude into the Schwab ecosystem, Anthropic gains a route into thousands of wealth management businesses that already rely on Schwab as a core part of their operating infrastructure.

For Schwab, the partnership extends its technology strategy into generative and agentic AI while allowing independent firms to continue using their existing technology stacks.

Claude for Financial Advisors is designed to complement rather than replace the systems an advisor already uses.

That distinction is important because independent RIAs often assemble their technology environments from multiple specialized providers.

A firm may use one system for customer relationship management, another for portfolio accounting, another for financial planning and Schwab for custody.

Anthropic’s approach is to connect Claude across those systems so the AI can assist with workflows spanning multiple applications.

RIAs will be able to reach Schwab Advisor Center through an authenticated connection from Claude, while the broader offering is designed to integrate with CRM, custody, portfolio reporting, financial planning and meeting-related applications.

The companies see AI as a way to reduce the amount of time advisors spend assembling information and completing administrative work before and after client meetings.

Independent advisors generally differentiate themselves through advice and personal relationships, but a significant portion of their day can be consumed by preparation, documentation, data retrieval and system updates.

AI could increasingly perform portions of that work in the background.

For example, an advisor preparing for a meeting could use Claude to identify what has changed in a client’s financial situation, assemble information from connected applications and prepare material for discussion.

After the meeting, the system could assist with documentation, follow-up drafts and CRM updates.

That could allow the advisor to devote more time to conversations with clients while still maintaining the underlying records required to operate the practice.

Anthropic describes Claude for Financial Advisors as a comprehensive collection of connectors and workflow skills focused on research, preparation and documentation tasks.

The product includes Model Context Protocol connectors, a library of advisor-focused skills and plugins, and agents designed to assist with pre-meeting and post-meeting work as well as CRM updates.

The use of connectors is particularly significant for financial services because useful AI applications often depend on access to firm-specific information.

A general AI model may understand financial concepts, but it does not automatically know a particular client’s portfolio, financial plan, recent activity or previous interactions with an advisor.

Secure connections to the firm’s existing systems can provide that context.

The partnership therefore moves Claude closer to being an operational layer across an advisor’s existing technology stack rather than another isolated application requiring advisors to manually transfer information.

Schwab said the system is intended to strengthen, rather than replace, the human relationship between advisors and clients.

The company believes AI can take on more of the work that pulls advisors away from direct client interaction.

That positioning is particularly relevant for independent RIAs, where advisor time can be one of a firm’s most constrained resources.

If AI can reduce the hours required for meeting preparation, documentation and repetitive analytical work, advisory firms may be able to serve clients more efficiently without sacrificing personalized service.

The collaboration also gives Anthropic access to an important part of the financial services market as AI providers increasingly develop industry-specific products.

Rather than offering the same interface across every profession, Anthropic is building specialized workflows around the tools and information used by individual industries.

Financial advice represents a potentially large opportunity because the work involves substantial amounts of research, data synthesis, documentation and communication while also requiring a high degree of trust and professional oversight.

Anthropic Head of Asset and Wealth Management Peter Nolan said the company sees financial advisors as a direct route for bringing AI capabilities to more families.

Schwab’s more than 16,000 independent RIA relationships give Anthropic a sizable network through which to introduce those capabilities.

Schwab Advisor Services is currently the only RIA custodian providing an integration with Claude through Claude for Financial Advisors.

Anthropic will also participate in Schwab’s IMPACT 2026 conference, where independent advisors will have an opportunity to learn more about implementing and using the new capabilities within their firms.

The partnership ultimately reflects a broader shift in wealth management technology from AI tools that simply generate text toward AI systems that can operate with context from multiple applications.

By connecting Claude directly with Schwab Advisor Center and the broader software environments used by advisory firms, Schwab and Anthropic are attempting to make AI useful inside the actual workflows through which advisors serve clients.

KEY QUOTES:

“Independent advisors have always succeeded on the strength of their relationships, and relationships are built on advice, service and client experiences that stand apart. AI is exponentially powering the ability of advisors to stand apart in this way, even more so if it is integrated with the proprietary workflows and tech stacks advisors have already built.”

“Anthropic is building AI at the frontier of what’s possible. Bringing this solution directly to our clients, purpose-built for the environment they operate in, is how we help advisors claim the next frontier of advice.”

Jon Beatty, Head of Schwab Advisor Services

“Our goal is to bring the benefits of AI to as many families as possible, and a direct path runs through the advisors they already trust. Collaborating with Schwab and the 16,000-plus independent RIAs it serves brings Claude to the firms doing that work every day, starting with a clear view of what has changed for each client.”

Peter Nolan, Head of Asset and Wealth Management at Anthropic

“For RIAs, technology has always been about delivering exceptional service and creating more opportunities to connect on a human level. AI pushes that thinking forward. It takes on more of the work that pulls advisors away from their clients, so they can spend their time where it counts.”

Alison Dooher, Head of AI for Schwab Advisor Services
