Citrix has completed its acquisition of Numecent, adding application virtualization and management technology designed to simplify software delivery across physical and virtual Windows environments.
Numecent develops Cloudpaging, which packages Windows applications into isolated application containers independent of the underlying operating system, and Cloudpager, a cloud management platform used to provision, update, roll back, remove and meter applications across Windows endpoints.
The acquisition expands Citrix DaaS capabilities beyond virtual desktops by supporting application delivery across both virtual and physical Windows devices.
Cloudpaging enables applications to be streamed on demand without traditional installation or changes to the base desktop image, while Cloudpager allows administrators to manage application assignments, updates, rollbacks, licensing and usage from a centralized console.
Citrix expects the technology to reduce desktop-management costs, shorten application update cycles, improve recovery following ransomware or site failures, reduce application conflicts and lower the need for software repackaging.
The combination is also intended to support DevOps automation and give IT organizations greater control and visibility into software usage across their Windows environments.
Citrix and Numecent had already launched an integration in April allowing administrators to publish and manage Cloudpaging application containers through Citrix DaaS workflows.
Citrix plans to further integrate both Cloudpaging and Cloudpager while continuing to support physical Windows desktops and laptops outside Citrix DaaS. Existing Numecent customers will continue receiving support during the transition.
