CivilGrid Raises $26 Million Series A As PG&E Reports $60+ Million In Eliminated Paving Conflicts

CivilGrid has raised $26 million in Series A financing to expand its infrastructure planning platform nationally as utilities and engineering firms increasingly use software to reduce delays, construction conflicts and project costs. Spark Capital led the round, with participation from Energy Impact Partners, Afore Capital, A*, Ford Street Ventures and SNR Ventures.

CivilGrid consolidates subsurface, regulatory and other site information into a collaborative geospatial environment designed for utilities, engineers, construction teams and infrastructure owners.

Customers include Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Atmos Energy, Mark Thomas and GHD.

The financing will support CivilGrid’s national expansion and additional product development.

The company is targeting one of the persistent problems in infrastructure development: fragmented information about what exists at a potential project site.

Utility assets, environmental requirements, municipal projects and property ownership information can sit in separate databases, PDFs and agency systems.

CivilGrid brings thousands of datasets sourced directly from government agencies into a single collaborative map so stakeholders can evaluate project constraints before construction begins.

The company cited approximately 200,000 utility strikes annually in the U.S. and estimated that resulting delays, rework and emergency responses cost the industry roughly $30 billion per year.

PG&E has reported measurable results from using CivilGrid.

The utility said the platform helped eliminate more than $60 million in paving conflicts through portfolio optimization, reduced field research and survey activity by 40% and accelerated project scoping, planning and design timelines by as much as four months.

CivilGrid also said its platform can reduce due diligence time by as much as 85% and potentially free up 5% to 10% of project budgets by reducing field surprises, emergency relocations and redesign work.

The opportunity extends across electric grid modernization, AI data centers, defense infrastructure, broadband, housing, water and transportation.

CivilGrid estimates it operates within a roughly $2.2 trillion U.S. construction market.

KEY QUOTES:

“Teams are building with incomplete site data and disconnected workflows that slow projects, increase costs, and create avoidable risks. CivilGrid gives cross-functional teams at PG&E and other leading utilities the confidence they need to plan effectively, reduce risk, and deliver projects affordably.”

Josh Mackanic, CEO And Co-Founder Of CivilGrid

“That means planning smarter from the start with tools like CivilGrid, which help our teams identify risks earlier, build more efficiently, and avoid unnecessary costs while keeping safety front and center.”

Christine Cowsert, Senior Vice President Of Enterprise Business And Technology Modernization At PG&E
