Clark Atlanta University announced that it has secured $5.23 million in federal funding over the past four years to support science education, cybersecurity research, and campus safety initiatives. The funding was obtained through Congressionally Directed Spending across two presidential administrations and reflects bipartisan support from federal lawmakers.
The Atlanta-based historically Black university said the funding will strengthen academic programs while enhancing safety and security infrastructure across campus.
The funding package includes multiple appropriations spanning fiscal years 2022, 2024, and 2026. In fiscal year 2026, Clark Atlanta University received $1.1 million to support science education improvements and public safety initiatives. Of that amount, $850,000 will be used to improve science education and detection capabilities through the purchase of essential equipment, as well as the provision of financial aid and stipends. An additional $250,000 will support campus security projects and broader public safety enhancements.
Earlier appropriations include $3.13 million secured in fiscal year 2024. That funding consists of $630,000 designated for campus security and public safety enhancements, $2 million allocated to support the university’s Cybersecurity Research Center, and $500,000 for additional cybersecurity research initiatives.
In fiscal year 2022, Clark Atlanta University also secured $1 million to advance cybersecurity research programs.
University leaders said the funding will allow the institution to acquire advanced scientific equipment, strengthen cybersecurity capabilities, and implement additional safety measures across campus. The initiatives are designed to expand research capacity while providing a safer and more supportive environment for students, faculty, and staff.
Clark Atlanta University was formed in 1988 through the consolidation of Atlanta University, founded in 1865, and Clark College, founded in 1869. The institution is a private research university that offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
