Clifford Chance has appointed Matthew Jones as a partner in its Debt Finance practice in Houston, strengthening the global law firm’s leveraged and infrastructure finance capabilities across energy and other capital-intensive industries. Jones advises public and private borrowers, private equity sponsors and lenders on complex financing transactions.
His practice focuses on energy, infrastructure and other capital-intensive sectors, including financing arrangements associated with domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions and other business combinations.
The appointment represents Clifford Chance’s fourth partner hire in Houston since May.
Jones joins a growing Houston team that recently added litigation and arbitration partners J. Laurens Wilkes and Caitlin Gernert as well as finance and derivatives partner Carter Olson.
The expansion reflects Clifford Chance’s continued investment in Houston as the firm builds capabilities around energy, infrastructure, finance and complex transactional matters.
Jones brings experience advising on complex capital structures alongside his sector-specific knowledge of energy and infrastructure financing.
That combination is intended to strengthen Clifford Chance’s ability to advise clients on leveraged finance and infrastructure transactions in both the U.S. and cross-border markets.
The firm has more than 450 attorneys across New York, Washington, D.C., Houston and São Paulo.
Its Americas practice advises on transactional, regulatory and disputes matters spanning private capital and financial services, healthcare and life sciences, technology, infrastructure and energy.
