Clifford Chance Adds Thyl Hassler As Private Capital Expansion Reaches 8 Lateral Partners

By Amit Chowdhry ● Aug 30, 2026

Clifford Chance has added Thyl Hassler as a partner in Germany, strengthening the global law firm’s private capital, energy and infrastructure capabilities as investor activity across the asset class continues to expand.

Hassler joins Clifford Chance from White & Case and focuses on private equity infrastructure transactions.

He advises financial sponsors, infrastructure funds, sovereign wealth funds and other investors across domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, carve-outs, co-investments, joint ventures and strategic alliances.

His experience extends across a broad range of infrastructure categories, including renewable energy, power and utilities, battery storage, transportation, digital infrastructure and hybrid infrastructure investments.

That background adds transactional capabilities around several sectors attracting increasing amounts of private capital as investors pursue opportunities tied to power demand, energy transition infrastructure and digital development.

The appointment follows other infrastructure-focused additions at Clifford Chance, including Patrick Tardivy and Paul Loisel in Paris.

Hassler’s arrival is also part of a larger lateral hiring push across the firm’s Private Capital platform.

Clifford Chance said it had added seven lateral partners across New York, Paris and Luxembourg since May 2025 before Hassler’s appointment, making him the eighth addition referenced in the current expansion cycle.

The firm is positioning those hires around the entire private capital investment lifecycle, with lawyers advising sponsors and institutional investors from transaction structuring and acquisition through portfolio management and exits.

Hassler will be based in Germany, adding another senior infrastructure partner to Clifford Chance’s European private capital network while complementing the firm’s capabilities in other major financial centers.
