Clifford Chance has appointed Mark-Jan Arends as the next Managing Partner of its Amsterdam office, selecting an established corporate leader within the firm to take over the role effective 1 January 2026. Arends succeeds Titus de Vries, who guided the Amsterdam office through a period of meaningful expansion and partner development during his tenure.
The firm credited de Vries with driving strong performance across the Netherlands, managing a generational shift that resulted in eleven partner promotions in seven years, and strengthening the firm’s client relationships across global markets. His leadership also reinforced Amsterdam’s position among the country’s top legal practices.
Arends joined the firm in 2014 and became a partner the following year. He currently leads the Corporate practice in Amsterdam, advising major Dutch and international clients on high-value and complex mandates. As Managing Partner, he aims to advance the firm’s global strategy, promote growth and profitability, and ensure that Amsterdam remains a central hub for cross-border advisory work.
Firm leaders expressed confidence that Arends’ experience and long tenure with Clifford Chance position him to expand client offerings and navigate increasing complexity across international markets. Arends emphasized the importance of continuing the office’s momentum while supporting clients throughout shifting economic and regulatory environments.
