Cloudera and Mistral have formed a strategic partnership to bring secure, sovereign artificial intelligence directly to enterprise data across cloud, on-premises, edge, sovereign and air-gapped environments.
The companies will combine Cloudera’s hybrid data and AI platform with Mistral’s frontier AI models, giving enterprises a way to build, customize, and operate AI systems using private data without requiring sensitive information to leave their existing security and governance boundaries.
The partnership is aimed particularly at large enterprises operating in complex or highly regulated data environments, where moving proprietary information to external AI services can create security, regulatory, and operational challenges.
By integrating Mistral’s models directly with Cloudera’s platform, organizations will be able to run inference within their own infrastructure while maintaining control over data, intellectual property and deployment economics.
Cloudera said its platform currently manages approximately 30 exabytes of enterprise data. The combined offering will enable customers to apply Mistral’s technology across that data regardless of whether it is stored in public clouds, private infrastructure, on-premises systems or fully disconnected environments.
Mistral’s portfolio includes models and tools for reasoning, conversational AI, software development, document intelligence and voice applications.
The companies plan to make those capabilities available alongside governed enterprise data so customers can choose different models and deployment environments without being tied to a single infrastructure provider.
The partnership also expands the options available to companies seeking to move AI workloads beyond public API-based consumption.
Enterprises will be able to run private inference on infrastructure selected for individual workloads, potentially giving them more control over performance, security and long-term costs as AI usage increases.
A significant component of the collaboration will involve Mistral Forge, which allows organizations to develop frontier-grade AI models grounded in their proprietary information.
Through the integration, Cloudera customers will be able to customize and train models against large private datasets while keeping both the underlying data and resulting intelligence within controlled environments.
For companies with decades of proprietary information, the companies believe this could create an opportunity to turn institutional knowledge into specialized AI systems without exposing sensitive data to outside platforms.
The partnership is also intended to support developers building enterprise AI applications using governed internal data.
Potential applications include conversational access to enterprise information, AI-assisted software development, document analysis and agentic workflows capable of operating within established security and governance controls.
Cloudera and Mistral also intend to collaborate on AI deployments at the edge.
That work will focus on bringing increasingly capable inference closer to where data is created, including disconnected, latency-sensitive and resource-constrained environments where centralized cloud infrastructure may not be practical.
Edge deployment could be particularly relevant for industries and organizations that need to process information locally because of security, connectivity or response-time requirements.
The agreement also adds Mistral to the Cloudera Enterprise AI Ecosystem, which brings together AI model developers, infrastructure providers, application companies and technology partners.
Cloudera said the goal of the ecosystem is to give customers flexibility across models, infrastructure and deployment environments while avoiding dependence on a single AI technology stack.
Mistral’s addition expands that strategy by giving Cloudera customers access to customizable frontier models that can operate directly alongside governed enterprise data.
The partnership also reflects growing enterprise demand for sovereign AI, where organizations retain greater control over where models run, where information is stored and how proprietary data is used.
That issue is becoming increasingly important for governments, regulated industries and multinational companies managing sensitive intellectual property or data subject to geographic and regulatory restrictions.
Rather than requiring those organizations to move their information to centralized external AI services, Cloudera and Mistral are positioning their combined platform around bringing the models to the data.
The joint solutions will be available through Cloudera’s enterprise sales organization and partner network, with additional integrations and capabilities expected to roll out over time.
