Coastal Medical Transportation Systems Acquires Alert Ambulance To Expand New England Medical Transportation Network

Coastal Medical Transportation Systems (CMTS), a privately owned medical transportation provider serving New England, announced it has acquired Alert Ambulance Service as part of its continued regional expansion strategy.

The acquisition follows CMTS’s integration of Fallon and Lifeline Ambulance Services, the Massachusetts transportation arm of Transformative Healthcare, in late 2022. With the addition of Alert Ambulance, CMTS further expands its footprint across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island while strengthening its position as one of the region’s largest ambulance and medical transportation providers.

According to the company, the transaction is intended to improve emergency and non-emergency medical transportation services while helping address care delivery gaps across New England.

CMTS said the acquisition expands its geographic coverage by integrating Alert Ambulance’s existing service routes into its broader network. The combined organization is also expected to increase operational efficiency through additional backup resources and enhanced patient transport capacity, supporting faster response times, continuity of care, and improved inter-facility transfers.

The workforce integration will bring Alert Ambulance employees into the CMTS organization, where they will gain access to the Coastal EMS Academy and company training programs. CMTS also noted that the combined fleet will now exceed 325 vehicles, including ambulances and specialized transport vehicles.

The company said current Alert Ambulance customers should experience no interruption in service during the transition process. CMTS added that it plans to preserve the locally operated approach associated with both organizations while incorporating its technology-driven logistics systems and clinical care standards.

Founded in 2013, CMTS operates around the clock throughout New England and provides services including Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), 911 emergency response, and wheelchair transportation. The company said it employs more than 1,300 people across the region.
