Coinbase And Moov Partner To Bring Stablecoin Payments To More Than 1,000 Community Banks And Credit Unions

Coinbase and Moov have formed a partnership to bring stablecoin payment acceptance, settlement, custody and real-time funding capabilities to more than 1,000 community banks and credit unions served through Moov’s payments infrastructure.

The partnership combines Coinbase’s regulated digital asset infrastructure with Moov’s existing payment platform, allowing smaller financial institutions to offer stablecoin capabilities without developing and operating their own cryptocurrency technology stacks.

Moov connects community financial institutions to card acquiring and issuing systems and real-time payment rails. Through the partnership, it will integrate Coinbase’s stablecoin infrastructure directly into that existing platform.

Moov will use Coinbase Developer Platform Custodial Wallet accounts for fund custody and Coinbase’s Payments API to orchestrate stablecoin transfers.

Supported use cases will include consumer stablecoin payments, merchant acceptance, merchant settlement and payouts, with Coinbase providing digital asset infrastructure and Moov connecting those services to the payment systems financial institutions already use.

The companies are initially focusing on acceptance, settlement and real-time funding, but see opportunities over time to connect digital assets with additional financial products offered by community institutions.

The strategy is designed to allow banks and credit unions to participate in stablecoin adoption while maintaining their existing relationships with consumers and businesses rather than sending customers to external crypto providers.

KEY QUOTES:

“Community banks and credit unions have witnessed their customers use digital assets for years. Through our partnership with Moov, Coinbase is delivering the regulated infrastructure they need to offer these services directly—embedded right into their existing systems. Modern tech should meet local institutions where they are, giving them the tools to compete with the largest players while preserving what makes them trusted pillars of their communities.”

Ryan VanGrack, Vice Chair and Head of Corporate Affairs at Coinbase

“Business customers of community institutions are already being asked to accept stablecoins, and today they go outside their institution to do it. We built this so the answer comes from their primary FI instead. Merchants need acceptance and disbursement now. What comes next is bigger: funding that doesn’t stop for weekends or holidays, because the rail doesn’t close. Institutions that add this now will be positioned for both.”

Wade Arnold, Co-Founder and CEO of Moov

“Citizens Bank of Edmond has spent 125 years listening to Main Street businesses. Community banks like ours innovate by solving the problems we hear in our lobby. At Citizens, we’ve built patented ATM technology, launched festivals and business incubators, and developed systems for small business support in national crises. Today, our small business customers are looking for ways to lower interchange costs and get paid faster.”
