Collate: $10 Million Series A Raised For Transforming Data Intelligence

By Amit Chowdhry • Jul 16, 2025

Collate, the company behind OpenMetadata, the leading open-source project for data intelligence, announced today it has secured $10 million in Series A funding. The round was led by Venrock, with participation from Unusual Ventures and Karman Ventures.

This significant investment comes as Collate experiences rapid growth, with its Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) soaring over 350% year-over-year. Customers like Mango, fundcraft, and Decisiv are already leveraging Collate to effortlessly find, understand, and govern their data, leading to increased productivity for data teams and faster innovation.

Despite substantial investments in data platforms, businesses of all sizes continue to struggle with extracting full value from their data and AI initiatives. The explosion of data and tools has created fragmentation and silos, leading to critical issues such as:

  1. Disconnection between business and technical teams when collaborating on data projects.
  2. Lack of trust in data across the organization due to persistent quality concerns.
  3. Manual, fragmented tooling that hinders productivity and adds unnecessary friction.

Collate’s agentic data intelligence platform directly addresses these challenges by automating tasks and fostering collaboration, completing a virtuous cycle with AI specifically designed for data teams. This empowers organizations to deliver the high-quality data necessary for AI readiness. The platform’s orchestrated suite of agentic workflows and human workspaces provides a unified solution, built on the open-source core of OpenMetadata.

OpenMetadata’s rapid growth and importance to the open-source community were recently recognized with a $10,000 grant from Bloomberg’s FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) Contributor Fund, solidifying its role as the open foundation for Collate’s expansion.

Collate’s vision is spearheaded by its founders, who bring more than four decades of combined experience, having helped create industry-standard tools such as Apache Hadoop, Apache Kafka, and Uber DataBook, and founded Hortonworks. Their aim for Collate is to deliver AI-powered data discovery, observability, and governance. The platform is built on a Unified Knowledge Graph, a democratized user experience, and open-source technologies, equipping modern data teams with the essential tools needed to manage data effectively in the AI era.

The new funding will be strategically deployed across several key growth areas:

  1. Accelerating the OpenMetadata community – Further advancing the open-source metadata project, which boasts over 9,800 members and a remarkable 3,000% growth.
  2. Expanding engineering investment in AI agent development – Driving the next wave of intelligent automation for data teams.
  3. Scaling go-to-market operations – Enhancing reach for both enterprise and cloud-native organizations.
  4. Enhancing customer success services – Strengthening support for Fortune 500 customers.
