Commcrete: $29 Million Closed For SATCOM-On-The-Move Technology

Commcrete, an innovative leader in tactical satellite communication systems, has recently announced that it has secured $29 million in funding through its Seed and Series A investment rounds. The latest funding of $21 million in the Series A round was spearheaded by Greenfield Partners, with notable contributions from Redseed Ventures and existing investors.

This additional funding builds on a previous Seed round supported by esteemed individuals, including Professor Amnon Shashua, the founder of Mobileye, as well as Q Fund and private angel investors. The capital raised will be instrumental in facilitating Commcrete’s global expansion as its ultra-compact SATCOM systems continue to be embraced by defense, security, and emergency response organizations across diverse regions, including Europe, North America, East Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.

Historically, battlefield communications and tactical satellite networks have made little progress, forcing soldiers, first responders, and critical operational personnel to rely on cumbersome, complex, line-of-sight radios and satellite systems. These traditional systems often fail under challenging conditions, such as adverse weather, dense forests, rugged mountains, and urban landscapes.

Recognizing these systemic challenges, Commcrete’s founders—who are veterans of Israel’s elite defense technology units—saw firsthand the detrimental impact of lost connectivity. They understood that in critical situations, such lapses in communication can jeopardize missions and put lives at risk. This urgent need inspired them to establish a new communication standard: a handheld, omnidirectional system capable of delivering continuous, secure voice and data links, all without the necessity for massive antennas, bulky infrastructure, or unobstructed access to the sky.

Commcrete has developed several groundbreaking products to address these needs. The Flipper, the company’s first product, enables the immediate conversion of any radio—ranging from high-end military devices to everyday walkie-talkies—into an advanced, satellite-enabled communication system. The second product, known as Stardust, is a multi-channel SATCOM communicator that integrates Commcrete’s proprietary chipset. This device enables a variety of functions, including simultaneous voice communication, text messaging, file transfers, location tracking, and distress signaling, all of which operate seamlessly over satellite networks. Both the Flipper and Stardust boast a compact design, weighing in at just 150 grams each. To further broaden these communication capabilities, Commcrete has introduced a third product called Bittel. This device is specifically designed for use in vehicles and on other platforms, ensuring continuous and secure communication that extends its usability far beyond conventional tactical satellite systems. Together, these innovations are positioned to penetrate an estimated global SATCOM market of $200 billion over the upcoming years.

The founders of Commcrete bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the venture. Michaeli, a 25-year veteran of Israel’s elite technological units, previously served as the communications leader for the most elite special operations squads in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Joining him is CTO Josh Yedidia, who was honored with the IDF Chief of Staff’s Prize for his lifetime contributions to tactical communications. Additionally, COO Michael Mor, a former leader of the communications section and project manager within Israel’s specialized technological forces, rounds out the leadership team.

Commcrete’s systems revolutionize capabilities that have traditionally required vehicle-mounted terminals by consolidating them into handheld devices that achieve the industry’s lowest size, weight, and power (SWaP) profile. Unlike conventional systems that depend on existing satellite protocols, extensive ground infrastructure, or continuous signal transmission, Commcrete’s technology removes the need for bulky hardware and complicated setups. By focusing on narrowband SATCOM, the company delivers some of the smallest antennas and lowest SWaP profiles available, achieving performance levels that are up to ten times greater than those of competing alternatives. This enables reliable communications under a variety of challenging conditions, whether in stealthy signal profiles in dense forests, urban canyons, arid deserts, or areas with restricted access.

Designed to fully leverage the capabilities of GEO L-Band satellites, this system architecture represents a significant technological advancement, promising seamless integration into both defense and commercial satellite frameworks across additional frequency bands.

Commcrete’s technology has already demonstrated its effectiveness in real-world scenarios during regional conflicts, where air, land, and sea operations required precise, coordinated communication. This capability has proven invaluable in instances where traditional communication methods have failed.

The technology has been deployed not only in military operations but also in international search and rescue missions, disaster response efforts, and is increasingly being adapted for various applications. These include enabling unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) missions and ensuring safety communications for fleets and individuals traveling in remote or infrastructure-challenged environments. As Commcrete continues to innovate, it is well-positioned to redefine the landscape of tactical communications in the years ahead.

KEY QUOTES:

“It’s time SATCOM finally delivered what operators always needed but could never get. Commcrete transformed massive platforms into truly tactical systems built entirely around the user, with uncompromising quality and extreme reliability. Our first real milestone came in 2023, when our systems enabled comms during a natural disaster that had wiped out all communications infrastructure. Since then, we’ve supported extensive missions worldwide – from North America to the Pacific, proving our breakthrough technology as the only SATCOM that works tactically, anywhere, under any condition.”

Itzik Daniel Michaeli, co-founder and CEO of Commcrete

“For decades, the industry barely moved forward and users were stuck with big, fragile systems that too often failed when it mattered most. We set out to change that and our team of operators, engineers, and special operations veterans did so by rethinking SATCOM from the ground up. By combining deep-tech expertise with battlefield experience, we’ve built systems that can hold entire missions together without losing connectivity.”

Michael Mor, Co-Founder and COO of Commcrete

“Resilient communications will define the next decade of defense and public safety. Commcrete has developed technology that works where others fail, proven in combat, disaster response, and environments where conventional systems go dark. What makes them extraordinary is not just the technology, but the team of innovators and operators with battlefield experience behind it. We are proud to back Commcrete as they set a new global standard for mission-ready connectivity.”

Raz Mangel, Partner at Greenfield Partners

“When lives are on the line, there are no second chances. The system must work flawlessly. Commcrete is a fusion of advanced satellite engineering, deep-tech software, and real-world operational experience from special forces veterans. Our lifelong knowledge is forged into ultra compact systems that work without compromise. Technologically, our approach isn’t just different, it fills a critical gap no one else has solved until today.”
