Concordare Trials has closed a funding round led by Surface Ventures, with participation from Techstars, Innovation Works, Gaingels and individual investors.
New York-based Concordare is developing an AI-powered platform that converts static clinical trial protocol PDFs into structured, interoperable digital data that downstream clinical systems can use.
The company was founded by Zach Sawaged, who previously worked across clinical research sites, pharmaceutical sponsors and technology providers, including roles or experience with NYU Langone, Amgen, Johnson & Johnson, Takeda and Veeva.
Concordare is targeting a structural challenge in clinical trials: protocol information must frequently be manually recreated across multiple systems.
The company estimates that configuring systems around lengthy, non-standardized trial protocols can cost approximately $25 million per study.
The Concordare Suite ingests a trial protocol PDF and transforms it into the company’s Clinical Trial Protocol Model, or CTPM, a system-agnostic digital source of truth.
AI is used for protocol extraction, after which the CTPM is reviewed by humans before it generates system configurations and study documents.
Concordare said the process can allow sites to generate downstream outputs in seconds and accelerate study activation by six to eight weeks.
KEY QUOTES:
“Every day a trial runs late, a patient is waiting. We built software that addresses the source of clinical trial inefficiencies in a way that works for sites across every sponsor, every study, every time. This funding accelerates that work.”
Zach Sawaged, Founder and CEO of Concordare Trials
“By digitizing clinical trial protocols at an early point in the process, Concordare has the opportunity to further digitize the entire clinical trial value chain and create value for both sponsors and sites. This enables trials to run faster with fewer errors, ultimately helping get life-saving treatments to patients sooner.”
