Confluera is a real-time cybersecurity company that is revolutionizing how brands protect themselves and it also protects their customers from cyberattacks. Recently, Confluera announced it raised $9 million in Series A funding led by Lightspeed founder and Managing Partner Ravi Mhatre with significant participation by John W. Thompson (former CEO of Symantec and Chairman of Microsoft), Frank Slootman (former CEO of ServiceNow), and Lane Bess (former CEO of Palo Alto Networks).

Industry analyst company Gartner estimates worldwide information security spending is going to surpass $124 billion in 2019 largely driven by security and risk management needs of digital business initiatives. And businesses around the world are still struggling to detect and stop ever-increasing advanced, multi-stage cyberattacks.

“The cybersecurity industry is broken. The industry has focused on a plethora of point solutions that fail to address modern cyberattacks. We have created a unique platform to deterministically intercept and stop cyberattacks in real-time,” said Confluera co-founder and CEO Abhijit Ghosh. “We aim to help enterprises around the world manage security risks across their infrastructure.”

Current solutions are failing to prevent attackers from navigating through the enterprise infrastructure. And this led to a number of high-profile breaches, reputational damage, and regulatory action for businesses while adversaries roam freely through their critical infrastructure.

“Confluera is uniquely positioned to revolutionize how brands protect themselves and their customers from modern cyberattacks,” added Ravi Mhatre — the founder of Lightspeed Ventures. “This funding round will enable Confluera to accelerate its growth and bring to market a cybersecurity product that is unmatched in its ingenuity and effectiveness.”

Confluera’s founding team has an unrivaled track record of building revolutionary, long-lasting technologies. Abhijit Ghosh (CEO and co-founder) was an engineering lead at Juniper Networks, Azanda Networks, and Siemens. Niloy Mukherjee (co-founder and Chief Architect) was a lead architect of Oracle’s In-Memory Database and LinkedIn Distributed Data Systems. And Bipul Sinha (Co-founder and Chairman) was the co-founder and CEO Rubrik, founding investor/Board Member of Nutanix, and an engineer at Oracle.

“The caliber of the Confluera team speaks to the confidence we have in their innovative and market-disrupting approach to cybersecurity,” commented Thompson. “The fact that the Confluera platform can help identify and engage with the attackers in real-time, is the first step towards winning the cyber warfare.”

According to Forbes, New York-based tax advisory and accounting firm CohnReznick integrated the Confluera platform on a subset of servers a few weeks ago and it is planning to deploy it across 80% of their server environment this month.

CohnReznick’s head of infrastructure engineering, operations and security told Forbes that “Confluera maps slow-moving multistage attacks to the cyber kill chain, so you can see where the malicious software is moving. That’s something I haven’t seen in the industry.”
