Consano Bio has raised more than $15 million in an oversubscribed financing to advance C-1101, its investigational multi-protein biologic therapy for chronic painful lumbosacral radiculopathy, also known as chronic sciatica.
The financing exceeded the company’s $15 million target and was backed by a syndicate of accredited private investors.
Including the latest transaction, Consano Bio has raised more than $45 million since its founding three years ago.
The company plans to use the proceeds to complete its ongoing randomized, double-blind Phase 1 clinical trial of C-1101 and advance additional scientific and intellectual property work around C-1101 and other assets.
The C-1101-101 study is enrolling patients with chronic painful lumbosacral radiculopathy in Australia and the U.S.
Consano expects enrollment to be completed in early 2027, with clinical data anticipated during the first half of 2027.
Those results are intended to inform the next stages of clinical development.
The FDA granted C-1101 Fast Track designation for treatment of lumbosacral radiculopathy in August 2026.
Consano said there are currently no FDA-approved pharmaceutical treatments specifically for chronic sciatica.
C-1101 is a platelet-derived multi-protein biologic designed to modulate inflammation while stimulating and enhancing cellular repair at the site of injury.
The therapy contains consistent concentrations of cytokines, growth factors and matrix proteins and is delivered through an epidural injection directly to the site of nerve injury.
Consano is positioning C-1101 as a potential disease-modifying approach rather than a treatment focused solely on temporary symptom relief.
KEY QUOTE:
“C-1101 represents a new category of disease-modifying biologics, designed to activate cellular repair and alleviate the pain and dysfunction that results from orthopedic conditions. LSR is where we begin, and we believe the potential of this approach extends well beyond a single condition. The recently closed financing allows us to complete our first clinical study and to assess how C-1101 affects patients with chronic LSR versus an epidural saline injection. This is an exciting time for Consano Bio, and we are building toward what could transform how these conditions are treated.”
