Construction Partners, a vertically integrated roadbuilder operating across Sunbelt markets, has acquired GMJ Paving Company, LLC, an asphalt paving contractor focused on public infrastructure work in the Houston region.
The deal adds a hot-mix asphalt plant in Baytown, expanding Construction Partners’ production footprint in the market and bringing its total to 12 plants in the metro area. The company said the plant also offers incremental throughput opportunities through its nearby liquid asphalt terminal.
Construction Partners framed the acquisition as the next step in a rapid buildout in the Houston market, which began in August with the purchase of Durwood Greene Construction Co. and accelerated in October with the acquisition of Houston-area construction assets from Vulcan Materials Company. With GMJ, the company is adding local operating talent and customer relationships that it believes will help it grow share in one of the country’s fastest-growing metro areas.
GMJ will join the Construction Partners family of companies as part of its Durwood Greene platform in the Houston area. Construction Partners, Inc. said its business remains primarily oriented toward publicly funded surface infrastructure work, including local and state roads, interstates, airport runways, and bridges, alongside a mix of private-sector paving and sitework.
KEY QUOTES
“A core component of our growth strategy is to enter the right markets with the right partners. We entered Houston last August with our acquisition of Durwood Greene Construction Co. and grew our operations significantly in October with our acquisition of the Houston-area construction assets of Vulcan Materials Company. With the acquisition of GMJ, we are further expanding our market share and adding to our team of skilled and experienced operators with extensive local market knowledge and deep customer relationships that is well-positioned to serve one of the most dynamic and rapidly growing markets in the country. We welcome Lupe Munoz and his team to our family of companies as part of Durwood Greene Construction Co. and look forward to our future in Houston.”
