Content Partners, a Los Angeles-based investment firm and leading independent owner of major studio-distributed film and television assets, has launched Wonderloom Media in partnership with media executive Ed Simpson. Simpson, formerly Chief Strategy Officer of Wheelhouse, will serve as CEO of the new venture. As part of the launch, Wonderloom completed its first acquisition: Dr. Insanity, one of YouTube’s largest true crime channels, with more than 5 million subscribers and over 1.3 billion total views. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Wonderloom is structured as a platform to acquire, operate, and scale YouTube-native and creator-led content businesses, targeting properties with strong audience communities and long-term growth potential. The company intends to support acquired creators through professionalized operations, expanded distribution, and diversified monetization strategies — effectively applying the institutional investment and content development infrastructure of a traditional media company to the creator economy.

Content Partners was founded in 2006 and has acquired interests in more than 800 studio-released films and over 3,000 hours of television programming. Its model centers on purchasing film, television, and music assets, generating cash flow under long-term distribution agreements with major studios and networks. Wonderloom represents an extension of that investment thesis into digital-native content, where audience loyalty and platform scale have become comparable in value to traditional media libraries.

Simpson brings more than two decades of experience across television, streaming, creator platforms, podcasts, and branded commerce. As part of the founding leadership team at Wheelhouse, he helped build the company into a diversified premium content platform through strategic acquisitions and capital formation. Earlier in his career, he was a key architect of the Leftfield Entertainment roll-up and its subsequent sale to ITV.

Dr. Insanity, known for documentary-style true crime storytelling, is positioned as a foundation acquisition — a channel with an established editorial voice, a proven audience, and room to expand into adjacent content formats and distribution channels.

Support: Night advised Dr. Insanity on the transaction; Willkie Farr & Gallagher served as legal counsel to Wonderloom; Paul Hastings served as legal counsel to Content Partners; and Baker & Hostetler served as legal counsel to Dr. Insanity.
