Could you tell me more about your background? Ballew said:
“Absolutely. My background combines law, tech, and entrepreneurship in an unconventional way. I started my career as an Army lawyer, spending four years at the Pentagon focused on regulatory law. My military service made me a regulatory expert in security and compliance matters. I didn’t realize at the time this would become the core of my work in tech.”
“In high school and college, I ran small software development shops on the side for extra money. That entrepreneurial bug never went away. After finishing undergrad at Princeton and law school at the University of Michigan, I co-founded Aptible. It was a DevOps and compliance platform that helped hundreds of companies deploy cloud applications securely and pass compliance audits.”
“Then in 2021, I spun out Conveyor to solve a specific problem I kept seeing: security questionnaires. We realized advances in generative AI could automate the whole process and save teams incredible amounts of time. That’s what we set out to do, and it’s been an exciting ride ever since. Today, I lead a team building AI that helps companies earn trust faster.”
Formation Of The Company
How did the idea for the company come together? Ballew shared:
“At Aptible, I saw SaaS companies struggle with security questionnaires. They’d be hundreds of questions long and take forever to complete. We tried streamlining it. It still required too much manual work. Then, with the rise of GPT-3, I thought, “What if AI could just answer these for you?” That led to Conveyor. We’re automating the painful parts of B2B sales. We make it fast, accurate, and easy.”
Favorite Memory
What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Ballew reflected:
“There have been many great moments. One really stands out. A customer told us our AI helped them finish a security questionnaire over their lunch break. I still remember what they said: “I used to block off entire afternoons for this, and now I can do most of it in under an hour.” That was huge for me and the team. It validated all the late nights and iterating we did to get the product right. We realized we weren’t just building software. We were giving people their time back. Hearing that directly from a customer was incredibly rewarding. It underscored why we started Conveyor in the first place.”

What are the company’s core products and features? Ballew explained:
“Conveyor automates customer trust workflows. This includes secure document sharing and generating instant answers to security questionnaires and RFPs. Our flagship Agent, Sue, allows customers to instantly access security documents and complete questionnaires. It achieves 95%+ first-pass accuracy.”
“Companies use Conveyor as a single source of truth. It handles security documentation, questionnaire automation, and RFP responses. The result? Faster deal closures with fewer resources.”
Challenges Faced
Have you faced any challenges in your sector of work recently? Ballew acknowledged:
“Absolutely. The biggest challenge in the AI space is making sure it generates accurate and trustworthy answers. In our industry, small mistakes can break trust. Early on, we ran into AI “hallucinations.” For example, we asked about a company’s data retention policy. The AI gave an official-sounding statement citing a 90-day period. The real policy said 30 days. That was a wake-up call.”
“We implemented a ‘human-in-the-loop’ review system to address this. When the AI lacks confidence or clear source material, those answers go to a human security analyst. We also trained our models on domain-specific data so the AI wouldn’t have to guess.”
“Building trust with early customers was another challenge. Many people were skeptical about AI handling security questionnaires. We were transparent about how it worked. We let them set their own confidence thresholds. This gave them control over when a human should step in.”
“We tackled accuracy head-on with smart validation, thoughtful design, and honest communication.”

How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Ballew noted:
“We’ve evolved our technology to make AI performance fully measurable and auditable. Conveyor pulls metrics on AI effectiveness into each customer’s platform instance. It’s visible and transparent. Customers see the percentage of correct answers, flagged items, and performance trends over time. They can view how Sue, our AI Agent, interprets their guardrails and follows them. This focus on transparency has been key to our technology’s maturation.”

What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Ballew cited:
“Alongside our Series A funding round, our milestones with customers come to mind. Hearing how our product improves our customers’ work lives never gets old.”
“The impact on individual team members matters too. An IT Manager recently told us: “We’ve reduced our turnaround time from a week or more to roughly three business days.” He was relieved to focus on actual security improvements instead of paperwork. That was a proud moment. We weren’t just saving company time. We were giving people hours of their lives back each week.”

When asking Ballew about customer success stories, he highlighted:
“My favorite story comes from a smaller startup that scaled up without hiring an army of people. Before Conveyor, new big customers meant dreaded security reviews that might overwhelm their small team. With our AI handling most Q&A, they went from 10 to 50 customers in a year. What are some of the company’s future goals? Ballew emphasized:
“Our goal is to build “instant trust” infrastructure for business. Conveyor automates security reviews today. We’re aiming for a future where AI handles all compliance and risk vetting automatically. Imagine vendor risk assessments done as fast as a credit card swipe… that’s the future we’re building. We’re also focused on growing our team and expanding our product offerings.”
