Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners Acquires 25% Stake In Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners acquired a 25% stake in the Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm through its fifth flagship fund, Copenhagen Infrastructure V.

The interest was previously held by the Macquarie-led consortium.

Following the transaction, CIP joins EDF power solutions with a 33.33% stake, ESB with 20.83%, and Sumitomo Corporation with 20.83%.

The project is located approximately 40 kilometers off the north Essex and south Suffolk coast in the United Kingdom.

Five Estuaries is expected to have capacity of up to 1,080 megawatts.

The project received development consent in December 2025 following more than four years of development.

Once operational, Five Estuaries is expected to generate enough electricity to meet the equivalent annual needs of approximately one million average UK homes.

The revised ownership structure brings together several experienced infrastructure and energy investors with backgrounds in developing, financing, and operating large-scale offshore wind projects.

CIP said the acquisition expands its portfolio of UK energy infrastructure investments and positions the firm as a long-term investor in Five Estuaries.

Since receiving development consent, the project team has continued refining the project design, beginning early procurement work, and engaging with landowners, local communities, and other stakeholders.

CIP was founded in 2012 and invests across energy infrastructure including wind, solar, energy storage, transmission and distribution, advanced bioenergy, low-carbon fuels, and carbon capture.

The firm currently manages 15 funds and has raised approximately €43 billion.

Its portfolio spans more than 30 countries and is supported by more than 2,300 professionals.

EDF power solutions UK and Ireland operates a portfolio of 50 renewable energy sites across battery storage, onshore wind, and offshore wind and plans to reach 10 GW by 2035.

ESB is a diversified utility operating across electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and customer supply.
