Cordant Raises $8 Million Seed Round To Build Command Center For Financial Infrastructure

Cordant has emerged from stealth with $8 million in seed funding to develop a command center for payments companies, fintechs and banks operating across fragmented financial infrastructure. Motive Partners and Oak HC/FT co-led the round.

Additional investors included Bankless VC, FJ Labs, SignalFire, Quona, Next Stage, Selah Ventures, Flatironx, Nascent Ventures, Silvercircle Ventures and Generative Ventures. Digital asset companies Bitso and Paxos also participated as investors and design partners.

Cordant gives financial operations, compliance, risk, treasury and audit teams a unified view of activity across payment rails, bank accounts, ledgers and control systems. The platform is designed to show what is happening within a transaction workflow, why it is happening and whether the outcome matches the institution’s expectations.

The company does not move or hold customer funds and does not require institutions to replace their existing core systems. It also avoids requiring customers to centralize all operational data within a new platform.

Instead, Cordant ingests signals from the systems already used by banks and financial technology companies. It then normalizes that information into a shared event model that can be used to investigate issues, coordinate decisions and maintain an auditable record.

Payment transactions can move through several systems during initiation, funding, settlement, reconciliation and reversal. Each provider may record only part of the transaction, making it difficult to identify where information stopped matching when a payment is delayed, rejected or flagged for compliance review.

Cordant is designed to detect gaps and contradictions between those records. The platform can coordinate exception-handling workflows and produce audit-grade evidence showing how a transaction moved, who took action and which controls were applied.

The company believes this visibility will become increasingly important as financial institutions adopt real-time payment networks, stablecoins, digital assets and AI-enabled workflows. Each additional payment rail or service provider can introduce another set of rules, data formats and operational handoffs.

Cordant also positions its platform as foundational infrastructure for deploying AI within regulated financial operations. Before automating a workflow, institutions need to be able to observe the process, explain how decisions were made and confirm that applicable controls were followed.

The platform is being developed with 11 design partners spanning banking, payments, embedded finance, cross-border transactions, stablecoins and digital assets. These partners are helping Cordant refine its product around real-world financial operations and compliance requirements.

Bitso is working with Cordant to improve visibility across traditional and digital financial systems. The company sees a need for a coordination layer that can connect separate systems of record with the rules governing payments, compliance and partner relationships.

Other design partners include Paxos, OpenReserve and Transcard. Their work with Cordant focuses on areas such as operational assurance, exception management, audit trails and the ability to verify that payment programs are meeting service-level, contractual and compliance requirements.

Cordant was founded by former Rapyd leaders Eric Rosenthal, Lior Levitt, Sagi Ittah and Juan Jose Huezo. The team previously worked across commercial strategy, product, engineering, sales and partner engineering while helping Rapyd expand across more than 50 countries and over 100 partner integrations.

Their experience involved coordinating activity among banks, processors, compliance systems, local partners and customer technology. Cordant was created to address the difficulty of understanding transaction outcomes when those systems did not share a common operational view.

The company will use the seed funding to move its platform into production and activate private beta customers. Cordant plans to support financial institutions seeking to add new payment rails and AI capabilities without losing visibility, control or auditability.

KEY QUOTES:

“Money moves in real time, but understanding where a transaction went, which systems and partner acted, who authorized it and whether the records agree still depends on weekly and monthly reporting.”

“We built the layer that was missing; one that shows how a transaction moved across all the systems involved or where the hand-off across systems and teams breaks down. That is the gap Cordant closes.”

“Everyone wants to put AI into payments and back-office workflows. But institutions cannot automate responsibly if they cannot see or explain it. Context has to come before automation.”

“At Rapyd, we saw this problem from every side. We built the infrastructure, integrated the partners, sold it globally and made it work inside customer environments. Cordant is the system we kept needing and could not find.”

Eric Rosenthal, Co-Founder and CEO of Cordant

“Bitso is building hybrid finance, bringing traditional and digital money into one system. Moving money across all of that is hard, and even with strong tooling of our own, the next hard problem is seeing the full route a payment takes and whether each step honors the rules meant to govern it.”

“We’re working with Cordant as a design partner because hybrid finance needs a coordination layer between separate systems of record and the rules that govern them. We’re starting with financial systems and see an opportunity for that same layer to extend across compliance and partner infrastructure.”

Imran Ahmad, COO of Bitso

“Anyone who’s run security and operations at scale knows the real cost sits in the unhappy path where there are break-glass procedures and engineers pulled into production to trace a stuck payment.”

“We’re partnering with Cordant to help design what a governed command center for financial operations should look like. By creating a system with permissioned view across systems, context, controls, and the audit trail to resolve issues without expanding who can touch production, we can create the kind of control the whole industry has been missing.”

Dave Schwed, OpenReserve

“The future of B2B payments will be defined by trust at scale. Moving money is no longer the differentiator. Continuously proving that every payment program is operating within its SLAs, contractual obligations, and compliance requirements in real time is.”

“As payment ecosystems become more complex, the industry needs a smarter, governed framework for operational assurance. That’s why we’re excited to partner with Cordant to help shape what’s next.”

Chris Fuller, President of Transcard

“Every institution moving money today is stitching together a patchwork of rails, ledgers, compliance systems and rules, and the real risk almost always lives in the handoffs between these tools.”

“Eric and the Cordant team spent years building and scaling the infrastructure at Rapyd, so they understand firsthand where visibility breaks down and what it takes to fix it. As banks and fintechs push to integrate new rails and AI into regulated workflows, that visibility becomes the prerequisite. We’re excited to partner with Cordant as they build the command center this industry has been missing.”

Oivind Lorentzen, Partner at Oak HC/FT

“Financial institutions are adding new payment rails faster than they can keep a single, trusted view across them. What gets missed is that every new rail adds another layer of operational and compliance complexity, one more system to reconcile by hand instead of trusting that a payment settled the way it was supposed to.”

“That gap only compounds as institutions push new rails and AI into regulated workflows, and it is the gap Cordant was built to close. We backed a team that has lived this problem and is focused on solving it.”
