Core Scientific announced the appointment of Steve Smith to its Board of Directors, effective immediately. Smith will also serve on the company’s Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee.
Core Scientific said Smith brings more than 35 years of leadership experience across the data center, digital infrastructure, and technology sectors. He has served as CEO of Zayo Group since 2020. Before joining Zayo, Smith was CEO and President of Equinix from 2007 to 2018, helping scale the company’s annual revenue from approximately $400 million to more than $4 billion while overseeing the integration of more than 20 acquisitions.
Earlier in his career, Smith held leadership roles at HP Services, Lucent Technologies, and Electronic Data Systems Corporation. He currently serves on the boards of Zayo and NEXTDC, an Australian data center company.
Core Scientific said the appointment comes as the company continues expanding its AI-focused infrastructure strategy and high-density colocation business. The company operates facilities across Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas.
