Coveris Acquires GEFO To Expand CPP Film Capabilities In Germany

By Amit Chowdhry • Jun 17, 2026

Coveris announced that it has acquired the business and assets of GEFO Folienbetrieb GmbH, a Germany-based producer of cast polypropylene films.

The acquisition expands Coveris’ CPP extrusion capabilities and strengthens its position in specialty CPP applications. GEFO is based in Gera, Germany, and will add production capacity as Coveris works to meet growing demand for recyclable mono-material packaging solutions.

Coveris said the acquisition supports its recyclable packaging portfolio and aligns with its “No Waste” sustainability vision. The investment is also expected to help customers prepare for European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation and Extended Producer Responsibility requirements.

CPP films are becoming increasingly important in flexible packaging due to their recyclability characteristics and compatibility with mono-polymer structures. Before the acquisition, Coveris Kufstein was the company’s only CPP extrusion site and was operating at full capacity.

The integration of GEFO will broaden Coveris’ product portfolio across high-growth areas including retort packaging, lidding films, bakery bags, medical packaging, and other non-food applications.

Coveris said the European CPP market is expected to grow by about 3% annually, while more technical segments such as retort, medical, and lidding applications are expected to grow by more than 4%. The company said this growth is being driven by sustainability requirements and the replacement of non-recyclable substrates.

The acquisition also supports greater vertical integration across Coveris’ network and is expected to create additional synergy potential across its operations.
