Cresset has named Dheeraj Soni as its Chief Technology Officer, placing the financial services technology veteran in charge of the wealth management firm’s technology organization, infrastructure, trading platform, and cybersecurity strategy.
Soni most recently served as Managing Director and Head of Trading at Cresset. His appointment expands his responsibilities as the firm continues investing in scalable technology and operational systems designed to support its growth and deliver customized services to clients.
As CTO, Soni will lead the development and execution of Cresset’s broader technology strategy. His responsibilities include advancing the firm’s technology infrastructure, overseeing its trading platform, and directing cybersecurity strategy and execution.
He will focus on developing secure and scalable systems that connect technology, trading, portfolio implementation, and regulatory compliance. Cresset said Soni’s experience across those areas will help the firm maintain operational efficiency while continuing to expand.
Soni has nearly 30 years of leadership experience spanning wealth management, private banking, prime brokerage, asset management, institutional trading, and investment banking. His background includes senior positions involving both financial technology and trading operations.
Before joining Cresset, Soni served as Chief Technology Officer of J.P. Morgan Advisors. In that role, he led initiatives focused on modernizing trading operations and integrating technology platforms across the organization.
Soni previously spent more than a decade as Head of Wealth Management Technology at First Republic Bank. He was responsible for architecting and implementing end-to-end wealth management platforms that supported the institution’s expansion from approximately $35 billion to more than $350 billion in assets.
His experience also includes multi-asset trading operations, portfolio implementation, platform integration, regulatory compliance, and the development of technology infrastructure for large financial institutions.
Cresset said the appointment reflects the importance of technology to its ability to deliver bespoke wealth management solutions. The firm is seeking to build infrastructure that can scale with the organization while protecting client information and supporting advisors, investment professionals, and operational teams.
The CTO role will connect several critical functions within Cresset, including trading technology, cybersecurity, portfolio systems, and enterprise infrastructure. Bringing those areas under Soni’s leadership is intended to support more coordinated technology development and execution.
Soni will also continue overseeing Cresset’s trading platform. His experience leading multi-asset trading operations is expected to help the firm develop systems that support efficient portfolio implementation and accommodate increasingly complex client requirements.
Cybersecurity will be another central component of Soni’s responsibilities. Cresset said maintaining a secure technology platform is essential to protecting clients and enabling the firm to continue delivering personalized services as its operations grow.
Soni holds an MBA in finance and completed an executive leadership degree at the Wharton School of Business. He also holds several Financial Industry Regulatory Authority registrations, including the Series 7, 24, 63, and 99.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Soni serves as chair of his local Boy Scouts troop. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife and has twin sons.
