Curricula recently announced that it raised $3 million in growth investment from RCP Equity to continue the rapid expansion of its fun story-based security awareness training platform. Launched in 2015, Curricula successfully bootstrapped its operations while tripling customer acquisition YoY.

With this round of funding, the company is planning to expand its sales and marketing strategy, enhance its platform capabilities, and begin expansion into the MSP channels.

“The cybersecurity awareness training space has become stale and far too technical,” said Joel Smith, Partner at RCP Equity and co-founder of AppRiver, which was recently acquired. “What we see in Curricula is an opportunity to completely change this industry by creating a fun security awareness training experience for employees.”

“We chose RCP because they support Curricula’s mission of putting employees first by creating a remarkable learning experience,” added Nick Santora, CEO at Curricula. “We are making an immediate impact in our customer’s security culture and it’s clearly resonating across an industry in desperate need of change.”

Curricula is considered the only character-driven security awareness platform that focuses on connecting employees with heroes, villains, and memorable security stories. And employees even become part of the story as they actively defend against DeeDee, which is Curricula’s AI villain hacker.

DeeDee is also available in Curricula’s platform for sending simulated phishing tests to employees. And this unique approach trains employees how to defend against real-world phishing tests delivered right to their inbox while making the entire experience fun and memorable.

In conjunction with the funding round, Kevin Hatch, Partner at RCP Equity and former CFO at AppRiver, has joined the Curricula Board of Directors.

“The real beauty of Curricula is it’s personal and easy,” explained Hatch. “Once employers, organizations, and channel partners see just how different Curricula is from the typical boring security awareness training stereotype, we know they’ll join the Curricula family. We are so excited to be a part of their future growth.”
