Cushing Terrell has acquired Seattle-based Graphite Design Group, expanding its architecture capabilities, client relationships and presence in the Pacific Northwest. Cushing Terrell is bringing Graphite’s employees, contracts and customer relationships into its organization.
Founded in 2012, Graphite provides architecture and design services across mixed-use, commercial, retail, hospitality, residential, cultural and community and technology projects.
The firm is licensed in all 50 states and works with customers both in the Pacific Northwest and nationally.
Graphite’s portfolio ranges from projects for major retail companies to work for local nonprofit organizations.
The firm has also contributed to several prominent projects visible across Seattle’s built environment.
Cushing Terrell and Graphite had worked together previously through overlapping operations and project partnerships in Seattle.
Those existing relationships contributed to the decision to combine the firms.
Cushing Terrell expects the acquisition to deepen its regional architecture resources while providing Graphite’s team with access to a larger multidisciplinary organization.
The firms also identified similarities in their approaches to client service, sustainability and designing spaces around the experiences of the people using them.
KEY QUOTES:
“Graphite is a highly respected firm we’ve had the privilege to get to know through our overlap in Seattle and our project partnerships. Through our work together, it became apparent Graphite would be a great partner for the long-term. With Graphite on board, we strengthen our presence in the region, expand our architectural capabilities, and create new potential for opportunity and growth.”
Greg Matthews, President and CEO of Cushing Terrell
“At Graphite, we’ve always believed design is about more than buildings — it’s about people and the positive impact we can have in terms of the relationships we build through the process and the ultimate user experience. Looking forward, we’re excited to join Cushing Terrell for Graphite’s next chapter and continue our mission to engage and inspire the communities we call home.”
