D-Wave Closes Quantum Circuits Deal, Adding Error-Corrected Gate-Model Tech To Dual-Platform Roadmap

D-Wave Quantum announced it has completed its acquisition of Quantum Circuits, a move the company expects will accelerate development of a scaled, error-corrected gate-model quantum computer to complement its commercial annealing systems.

The deal brings Quantum Circuits’ superconducting, error-corrected gate-model technology into D-Wave’s product lineup, reinforcing what the company described as a dual-platform strategy: continuing to sell and operate annealing quantum systems while advancing a separate gate-model program aimed at broader, fault-tolerant quantum computing applications.

D-Wave said its Advantage2 annealing systems are already deployed commercially, with customer workloads running in production. The company also pointed to prior work demonstrating performance beyond classical computing on a materials simulation problem, underscoring its view that annealing can deliver practical value today while gate-model systems evolve toward larger-scale, error-corrected operation.

Quantum Circuits’ key contribution, D-Wave said, is its dual-rail qubit approach, which the company argues simplifies error correction—one of the main technical hurdles to commercially viable gate-model quantum computers. D-Wave characterized the dual-rail design as combining fast superconducting operation with fidelity attributes associated with ion trap and neutral atom approaches.

The company said it plans to make an initial gate-model system generally available in 2026 and will discuss its updated dual-platform roadmap at its Qubits 2026 event in late January in Boca Raton, Florida.

Centerview Partners served as D-Wave’s exclusive financial advisor, and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP acted as legal counsel.
